This a long overdue post from brunch at BLVD Bistro in Harlem! This beloved neighborhood soul food spot serves all day brunch, every day of the week. We started with a side of their Mac and cheese, which is made with 7 different kinds and topped with crispy chopped bacon. I absolutely love biscuits and these were the best ones I’ve had in NYC. These took me back all the really good southern biscuits I had during my few years living in the south; they’re super buttery, soft, and structurally sound (if you’ve had a bad/ dry biscuit yk what I mean). We wanted to try some other soul food classics, so the best option seemed to be the fried catfish plate with collard greens and potato salad. The catfish had a great fry without being greasy. The catfish was fresh, juicy, light, and paired well with their tangy & spicy house sauce. I went with a soul food breakfast classic of fried chicken and pancakes. I really appreciate how they chose to serve pancakes instead of waffles because in my personal opinion they are better, and anyone who disagrees needs to try Blvd Bistro’s. They have achieved the most pillowy and delicately soft texture I have ever felt/tasted from a pancake. The pancake itself is only slightly sweet and absorbs the maple syrup without getting too soggy or dense. I didn’t go into this brunch thinking I was going to have the best pancakes in my entire life, but now the bar is set so high and has proven my point that pancakes are superior to waffles and French toast.
This brunch was phenomenal and almost put us to bed at the table. I would take the hour long journey from Astoria to Harlem any time, any day of the week. I recommend anyone looking for fantastic soul food, kind staff, fun music to check out Blvd Bistro!🥞🐓🍓
