Wrapping up another elk season strong.

There’s something about the end of a season that makes you stop and appreciate just how fortunate you are to live this life.

I’m grateful for every hunter who trusted me to be part of their experience, @sierra_crest_outfitters for giving me the opportunity to guide with them, and for every early morning, long day, hard-earned opportunity and lesson along the way.

But more than anything, I’m grateful for my wife—the woman who supports this wild soul of mine and understands that sometimes the mountains call louder than anything else.

Another season in the books. Tired, grateful, and already missing it.

Until next season

A MEAL WELL EARNED

This one is about more than a buck.

It’s about the miles, the heavy packs, the blown stalks, the hunger, the doubt—and the decision to keep going when quitting would be easier.

Most of all, it’s about sharing the backcountry with a good friend and watching Bryan earn his first buck the hard way.

A California backcountry mule deer film.

Premiering Sunday at 5PM.
I can’t wait to share this one with you. 🏹

Dreams really do come true.

Bryan wanted his first deer to be a true California public-land, backcountry buck taken with his bow. No shortcuts. No private-land handout. Just miles, sweat, hard lessons, and a whole lot of grinding.

For years he trained, learned, and passed on every private-land opportunity I offered him because he wanted to earn it the hard way.

And he did.

His first buck is one any California hunter would be proud of—OTC, deep in the backcountry, and an absolute grind from start to finish.

Couldn’t be more proud of you, brother. You truly earned this one. 🏹

There are few things better than helping someone you love experience something that has meant so much to you.

I’ve been helping my best friend learn to bow hunt, and this season he finally got his first buck. 🏹🦌

It was an epic hunt—long, hard miles, sore feet, cold mornings, and more than a few moments when it looked like it just wasn’t going to happen. But when everything was looking bleak, the magic happened.

He pushed through. He stayed after it. And in the end, he earned his first buck with a bow.

I couldn’t be more proud of him. And I’m incredibly honored to have shared the journey with him—from the practice, the preparation, the miles, the doubt, and finally that unforgettable moment when it all came together.

The buck is incredible, but honestly, that’s not what I’ll remember most.

I’ll remember the journey, the friendship, and getting to watch someone I care about chase a dream and make it happen.

And I’m already looking forward to all the amazing moments still ahead. 🤙🏼🏹

One week. 60+ miles on foot. High mountain mule deer country that, honestly, may be some of the most incredible country I’ve ever seen.

We didn’t see a lot of deer. And we didn’t come home with any meat.

But somewhere along the way, that stopped mattering.

This hunt was packed with adventure, adversity, long miles, hard climbs, cold mornings, tired legs, and moments that I’ll carry with me for the rest of my life. There were days when the mountains humbled me, and days when I stood there looking around thinking, how lucky am I to be here?

That’s the thing about chasing mule deer in the high country. Sometimes the reward isn’t hanging meat in the garage. Sometimes it’s the miles, the struggle, the views, the solitude, and the memories earned one hard step at a time.

I went into these mountains hoping to bring home a buck.

I came home with something different.

And somehow, it feels like enough.

The mountains gave me everything I needed. 🏔️🦌#bowhunter #hunting #california #muledeer #primalwildernessoutfitters

One of the best parts of being a bear guide isn’t the season itself—it’s everything that comes before it.
The preseason gives me a rare opportunity to step into a bear’s world. Long before hunters arrive, I spend countless hours watching, learning, and simply observing. Over time, you begin to recognize individual bears, their routines, their habits, and even their unique personalities. Some are bold, some are cautious, some seem endlessly curious, and others are content to quietly go about their day.
Those moments remind me that guiding isn’t just about helping someone harvest an animal. It’s about understanding and respecting the lives of the wildlife we pursue. The better I know these bears, the better guide I become—and the deeper my appreciation grows for the incredible animals they are.
These are the moments that make all the miles, early mornings, and long hours worthwhile.
