After last night’s epic #grossmanensemble concert with fabulous fellow composers:
@alexandrelunsqui @jonathanbaileyholland @leahreidmusic @analara @composerjuri @piercegradone and the whirlwind force of endless support, creativity and astonishing brilliance that is @augustareadthomas (front right).

With members of the outrageously slayful new mu Grossman Ensemble @constancesvolk @bmelsky @doylearmbrust after rehearsal for w premmy of my ✨new piece✨ “Auralis”

My left hand seems to be giving birth to a new limb in this pic. Fascinating, if a little disturbing.

Feeling ludicrously blessed
Vast gratitude to music generosity supernova @augustareadthomasofficial for making it happen. Gusty, you are an astonishing being. Am in AWE of what you do.

Thank you so much to Ben Melsky who stopped by our studio class this past week! A few students had the opportunity to perform excerpts for him and hear his wonderful insights. We were also very fortunate to hear about his journey as a performer and as the Executive Director of Ensemble Dal Niente. Thank you to Ben and The Running Start Office for making this happen!

Chamber Music America’s conference here in Chicago was AMAZING. CMA, look what you did! Five things:

1. Chicago.
Our music ecosystem is so, so special. We show up, share, collaborate, support, and celebrate each other. During the star-studded gala, I realized that of the five classical acts featured—eighth blackbird, Civitas Ensemble, Nicholas Phan + Art Song Chicago, Imani Winds, and Third Coast Percussion—I’ve collaborated with FOUR of them! 🥹 And even Third Coast, who I haven’t worked with yet (ahem), are friends and colleagues who have supported my artistry. That says something about this city and community.

2. IMANI-OBSESSED!
The gala concert was packed, and the music was incredible all around. I was fortunate enough to have one of my works mind-blowingly performed by Imani Winds, who absolutely BROUGHT. DOWN. THE. HOUSE. And after their incredible set: standing O! I could write a whole separate post about how obsessed I am with their artistry, advocacy, creativity, and incredible legacy. I love them. Period.

3. PICOSA-BLESSED.
I actually had TWO pieces performed at the conference! My Picosa + Peter Ferry fam once again BRILLIANTLY performed Redlin[ing]. Since the piece was supported by a CMA grant, hearing it AT the CMA conference made it extra special. So blessed by this creative partnership!

4. THE PEOPLE.
So many people I’ve engaged with for years but finally met in person, and so many reconnections! One was legendary 15x GRAMMY-winning producer Judith Sherman, who recently retired BUT is finishing, as one of her final projects, an album of my music with the Copland House Ensemble! Whew… just in time! 🙌🏿

And one of the best surprises: reconnecting with dear friends, early collaborators, and graduate-school rockstars Pierre and Sophie van der Westhuizen. Almost 20 years! 🤯 A reminder of how many people have been part of my journey and how much meaningful relationships matter.

5. Chicago. AGAIN.
Yes, Chicago gets two spots. 😂 Y’all, I live in the greatest city in the world. Summertime Chi: NOTHING beats it. Beautiful weekend, people, and music!

(I could write a ton more, but IG said 2,200 character😅)

"Colors, shapes, lines, this was all like going to a museum and walking through the galleries from Renoir to Matisse to Kandinsky."

Spent some time this summer giving my YouTube channel a long-overdue update.

In my bio you can find a link that will take you to a playlist of recent score videos of not-so-recent works, in wonderful recordings by @bmelsky, @nuntempe_ensamble, @austin_wulliman, and @latitude49music.

I intend to do a better job at keeping this channel up to date moving forward. If you (like myself) are a score video enthusiast, please consider subscribing.
