thank you to all the phenomenal booksellers who helped us today! the best part of our little roadtrip was getting to talk to new people and hear about what they’re reading and recommending. also: anyone who thinks that people don’t read anymore has never been to a bookstore on Labor Day. everywhere we went was packed!

extra special shout out to my parents who are in town for release day and who somehow managed to fit all their bags into my clown car 🤡

**ps that little bird is @veronicabane, and if you like teen thrillers be sure to check out her newest YA novel WE’RE ALL GOING TO DIE TONIGHT!

for better or for worse, I purposefully chose not to sign the kiddos up for camp the last week the cousin & family were staying w us bc I figured there would be enough entertainment and help around. Simultaneously a great and suboptimal idea 😅❤️. I still took my calls running into different rooms around the house (ie wherever was quietest or someone wasn't calling out for "mommy"), leaned heavily on my noise cancelling headphones, and outsourced to a play-space (shoutout @playpie_oc) so the kids could literally play til they dropped, but I didn't expect to also do a deep dive into collecting pokemon cards w the kids so much so that much of my slow work days (and late nights) were consumed by it 😴😅.

I scraped my way through those last few work weeks, but the girls still somehow redeemed their summer reading journal for new books, got their school supplies, and I have a new @vaultx binder (or two 😅) for my new @Pokemon cards on the way.

I guess for me, summer was never about finding balance, I just knew I needed to show up fully wherever I was. It looked a lot like a messy kitchen table working overtime (the table not me) which was complete with ripped packs, snacks or toys we reveled in the 20 min prior. It looked like locking in at the play space for 3-4 hours but also taking the "ride all the slides" tour w the kids, climbing the timed obstacle wall, and a completing a 20 min lap around @playpie_oc without my phone. It looked like letting my BIL drop off the kids at camp one day so I could get enough work in to leave early and meet friends at a pokemon card show. I knew I'd never find an "equal" state between work and summer parenting but a full presence even if was just limited to a 15 min fort building session or 5 min booster back rip session 🙈⚡️ still made a world of difference.

But really--anyone else also now in their @pokemon hyperfixation era? #hanginonbyathreadbutmakeitfashun
