Spent the last seven weeks in the Philippines, moving through six cities: attending two weddings, visiting my father at his resting place, spending time with his side of the family, and returning to my mother’s hometown. A lot to hold in ninety seconds.

More than anything it was the people. I left with a deeper understanding that connection is currency, and the more open you are, the more life expands in ways you don’t plan. The locals, their families, entrepreneurs, coaches and athletes, and kind strangers who shared pieces of their lives with me reminded me that the most meaningful parts of life reveal themselves by simply sitting down and listening. More of this, always.

I felt held through all of it. Thank you, Lord

I’m rewatching Alias with my roommates and it’s more relevant than ever: Sydney is betrayed and faces loss and has this reality reset, then has to go to work everyday and maintain her cool and over-deliver in the face of personal and global dangers. And because the number 47 is central to the show’s lore, I couldn’t not make the show the theme of my 47th birthday party. (By the way, recently found out that when I was born, I was baby 147 in registry 47. And dad was born in ‘47.) The assignment: wear a spyish suit or a wig and a disguise. And because my friends are my friends, the mission was a success. So many red wigs to pay homage to @jennifer.garner in the pilot. A blue wig replica of her look in the finale. Backup agents flown in from Austin. All the suits and shades and earpieces. A secret scavenger hunt mission. An espresso martini,because there was no coffee ice cream present. Feeling like I have the best possible backup as I work to escape the prophecy and fulfill the next mission. Thanks to @ianwhitmanhair for my blue hair too. And thanks to @reclamationbar for hosting us!!!
