The closest I ever got to skateboarding was watching Disney’s An Extremely Goofy Movie at least a dozen times as a kid (millennials will hopefully get that reference).

Despite my serious lack of credentials, the Board House Society crew was kind enough to let me come hang out with them for a bit during their community skate event earlier this week at Rockridge. With schools shut down in response to the Silver Rail shooting, they wanted to create a space for kids and skater-parents alike to come decompress, have a donut, and make some art for the impacted families.

Founded in 2024, @boardhousebend is a community skate project here in Central Oregon. Board House Society exists to empower everyone through skateboarding, creative expression, and community. They work to foster inclusion, acceptance and resilience through skateboarding itself, and related art, film and competition.
