Megalops atlanticus Tarpon, Silver King, Poon or Tarps are some names attributed to this acrobatic fish. Bright silver with huge scales these top predators feed mainly on fish and crustaceans. Fishermen the world over aspire to catch and release these revered fish. It is held in high esteem especially if caught from land, although many are caught from a boat. Apparently it is depicted in a fresco of the Sistine Chapel. Such is its status and beauty worldwide . In far north Angola, in a remote boutique fishing lodge, we are hosting fishermen to only catch and release these premier fish. This was one of the first of the season. Never taken out of the water and continually kept in water, we endeavour to safely release these tarpon to be able to catch them again as a renewable resource. The small local village get a levy from us as compensation for using their resource. Employing only local villagers in the lodge it is a blueprint of tourism in remote areas, otherwise devoid of opportunities. A great release by Brett Bouwer. 16 days of riding from Hillcrest to the Congo. Tar, dirt and all the adventures in between.

Massive Thanks to Dunlop Tyres SA for partnering with us on this awesome trip. It's been a pleasure meeting dealers throughout Southern Africa and really putting these Trail Maxx Mission tyres to the test 🛞 💪
