For the last three months, I spent my time in the beautiful city of St Louis, filming “The Streak” directed by Steve Byrne, and starring @edhelms The film tells the real life story of a first-time head coach who takes over the Caltech men’s basketball program after the team has gone more than three decades without winning a conference game. Armed with relentless optimism and an unconventional coaching philosophy, he attempts to convince a group of brilliant but athletically challenged students that an impossible turnaround can begin with winning just one game. If you are in St Louis and are in need of a top notch crew, please hire all of these names below. Beyond proud of this team and all that we were able to achieve. What I did instead of Burning Man 🏜️🔥 I spent 16 days rafting down the Grand Canyon with 14 people I didn’t know. All ages. All genders. All walks of life. I didn’t go to a party. I went to a vision quest. And I nearly died there. Hyponatremia. Severe dehydration. Sun and wind burn that stripped my skin raw. This mermaid is not built for 117 degrees in the desert. My body was screaming. But my spirit was awake in a way I’ve never experienced. I got high without drugs. I touched the earth in a way Instagram can’t capture. I sat with 14 humans I didn’t know and by day 3, we were family. By day 16, we were priestesses and warriors who had walked through fire together. But I’m just now sharing these photos taken in July… Because when I got home, my 18-year-old cat..my familiar, my medicine, my witness for nearly two decades..died in my arms within 4 hours of my return. She waited for me. Then she let go. I had so much guilt. I left her for 16 days. And when I came home, there wasn’t time to even say goodbye the way I wanted. But here’s what I learned in the desert: grief and joy coexist. Transformation and loss happen at the same time. You can be broken open and more alive than ever. These photos sat in my camera for weeks because I couldn’t hold both…the ecstasy of the canyon and the grief of losing her. But that’s the priestess work. That’s real life. That’s what it means to say yes to your calling even when it costs you something. I chose to invest my money in nature. In presence. In sitting with 14 humans on sacred lands and remembering what it means to be alive. Not in a party. In a vision quest. These photos are my honor to the Hopi, Navajo, and all the Indigenous peoples whose lands these are. My gratitude to the Colorado River. My medicine from 16 days of being stripped down to nothing but presence. And my grief for her. For the time I didn’t get. For the 18 years of her devotion. This is what I choose. I came here to make a film… but I left with something so much more. 30 days of creating, growing, laughing, and living fully in the moment. The kind of friendships that feel easy, genuine, and rare. The kind of memories you wish you could bottle up. This experience reminded me. it’s not just about what you create, it’s about who you create it with.
