So much for “American Flag blue”...

National Park Service workers were seen this morning pouring 12% hydrogen peroxide into the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool to fight an algae bloom that has spread across the water.

The bloom appeared less than two weeks after crews refilled the pool following President Trump’s $14.2 million renovation project. Trump pushed for the overhaul to restore the pool and give it an “American Flag blue” appearance, but visitors found green algae covering much of the surface instead.

Park officials say algae likely lingered in supply lines that sat unused during the roughly eight-week construction period. Workers have also deployed skimmers and nanobubble technology (which boosts oxygen levels in the water) to help clear the bloom and restore the Reflecting Pool.

$Today is Martin Luther King Jr. Day, which gives us a chance to reflect on his message in a moment when our nation feels fractured. Dr. King wrote these words in 1963 in his book “Strength to Love,” when violence threatened to consume the struggle for justice. He understood that fighting darkness with more darkness only deepens the divide. The quote featured in this video is actually what inspired this memorial in Washington. Today, as we navigate deep disagreements about our country’s direction, it’s helpful to remember Dr. King’s message. He chose nonviolent resistance. Others think that’s inadequate for the fight. But today is Dr. King Day, and we want to honor his vision for choosing understanding over anger, truth over division, and love over hate. Especially when it’s hard. 🎥 via @bobbykdc$
