When Coach Magill was asked to find a tennis coach in 1955 for the @universityofga , he appointed himself and stayed 34 years, retiring as the winningest coach in @ncaa history and founding the @ita_tennis Hall of Fame in Athens along the way.

Coach @mannydiaz53 arrived in 1971, an 18-year-old from San Juan. He played for Coach Magill, coached beside him until 1989, and then took the job most shy away from: following a legend.

Thirty-six seasons. 781 wins, the most in SEC history. Four national titles. Twenty-nine SEC championships. Eleven straight top-five finishes. A 32-0 season in 2007. Every four-year letterman he coached left with a ring.

@johnrisner left the program with 276 wins, an NCAA doubles title, and a national championship, then reached No. 8 in the world with wins over @djokernole at No. 1 and @rogerfederer on clay in Switzerland, finished inside the year-end top 20 for the entirety of the 2010s, inspired many as the top-ranked American for eight years, and played the longest match in the history of the sport at SW19 @wimbledon .

As the eldest of 6 in a first-generation immigrant family, MD gave me an in to the @ugatennis family of big brothers, peers, role models I dreamed of being a part of since I was a kid.

MD’s always emphasized his proudest accomplishments were never the trophies but watching his players grow into fathers and leaders.

A few weeks ago, alongside the greatest ITA HOF class ever, Coach Diaz was inducted into the Hall of Fame his coach founded, at the complex that bears his coach’s name, on the courts he first walked onto at eighteen alongside the greatest HOF class evah: @mannydiaz53 , @johnrisner , @kandersonatp, @steviej345 , and John Frierson.

Congratulations Coach Manny D! Thank you for the love, discipline, excellence, family that continues to drive me today. 🇺🇸🐶🎾❤️

80 players from 8 decades back in Athens to celebrate the culture, tradition, and family Coach Magill and Coach Diaz built. Thankful to be a small part of this championship program full of winners and to be a Dawg for life. Especially special to share the courts with Big A, and all the other giants I looked up to as a kid. Go Dawgs forever 🐶🚂❤️🎾🇺🇸
