What was supposed to be an easy 5K… turned into one of those races 😅

The Royal Palace of Genoa. Hall of Mirrors, „The Rape of Proserpina“ by Bernardo and Francesco Maria Schiaffino The sculpture is evidently inspired by the group of Pluto and Proserpina, sculpted by Gian Lorenzo Bernini between 1621 and 1622 for Cardinal Scipione Borghese, and still exhibited in his Roman villa and the undisputed pinnacle of all Baroque sculpture. It constitutes a natural evolution in a late Baroque direction. As in the Roman prototype, Pluto, god of the Underworld, kidnaps Ceres’ daughter, while the three heads of Cerberus bark at the entrance to Avernus. The two divine figures rise above the faceted rock typical of Genoese sculpture from Filippo Parodi onwards, from which here tongues of fire and oak wreaths blaze.
