Last night I got to do my first-ever puck drop for the Nipissing Lakers women’s hockey team! 🏒💚💙 @nulakerswhky @nipissingu.alum @nipissingulakers @nipissingu

I had the honour of doing it alongside our Chancellor, Scott Russell @cbcscottrussell, President @kbwamsley Dr. Kevin Wamsley, Vice-President Renée Hacquard, and my fellow Nipissing Alumni Executive member and Vice-President, Joe Burt @boejurt.

Such a cool experience — and even better, the Lakers came away with a 4–2 win! What a game!

After being part of the Nipissing community for so many years, I love that there are still new “firsts” like this. Getting to represent our alumni community, support our student-athletes and be part of these moments is something I really do love.

And for my first puck drop…I think I did alright.

Go Lakers! 💚💙

Homecoming is one of my favourite times of the year at Nipissing University @nipissingu💚💙

As President of the @nipissingu.alum
Alumni Board, I’m involved in supporting our alumni community throughout the year, but there’s something about Homecoming weekend that makes me feel especially connected to why we do this work. Seeing alumni come back, students getting involved, families joining in and so many familiar faces around campus always fills my cup.

And we packed a LOT into one weekend! From Friday night at the Alumni Pub with live music, to the Farmers’ Market Fall Festival where we sponsored free train and carousel rides and handed out a whole lot of Lakers swag, to the Homecoming BBQ, soccer games and finishing things off at Memorial Gardens cheering on our women’s and men’s hockey teams.

I’m so proud that our Alumni Board gets to help sponsor a weekend that brings together alumni, students, faculty, staff, friends and families. This community has given me so much over the years, and being able to give some of that back is pretty special.

And a HUGE shoutout to all of the Nipissing staff who worked throughout the weekend to make everything happen, and to the University’s executive team for showing up, taking part and supporting our Lakers. These events don’t just happen — there are a lot of people behind the scenes making sure they do.

Another Homecoming in the books. 💚 Forever proud to be a Laker.

Yesterday I turned 39. One year left before a new decade approaches. Aging is really fascinating. It’s definitely a privilege and to be able to sit here and reflect on the last 9 years is a gift.

My 30s started out very tumultuous to say the least. The passing of my beloved Oma devastated me as I knew it would when the time came. I went down a spiral that spring/summer and finally late fall knew changes had to be made. I met my now husband randomly on tinder Christmas Day at 11pm. Our third date was New Year’s Eve. I knew I was going to get married again and I would have children with this man. And so that’s what we did.

Sobriety came calling the beginning of 2018, just a few months into newlywed life. A dramatic life change. The beginning of being honest and kind to myself. Healing was about to commence. Everything I wanted was within reach with Danny by my side. I just had to get and stay sober. Which I have.

My babes have transformed me. Physically, mentally and emotionally. I just want to do right by them. As Springsteen said “If I had one wish for you in this god forsaken world, kid. It'd be that your mistakes will be your own
That your sins will be your own.” I live by this and will always put them first.

Becoming my own boss was the next venture. It’s been almost 6 months! Thanks to the support of family, friends and my amazing clients it’s growing. There isn’t one day I regret this decision and it’s only going to get better. I want to be a force in life and the beauty industry. I want to shake it up and challenge the norms of the past/present.

Thank you to everyone. Everyone that follows my journey. I feel so loved and blessed. I’m overflowing with gratitude. Stay tuned because the best is yet to come ❤️
