Larry Hagman, better known as J.R. Ewing in Dallas, famously wore a yellow-gold Rolex Day-Date — later paired with this extraordinary custom-made black leather and gold Western-style strap made by @bohlinmade especially for him, featuring the # legendary “J.R.” initials.

The watch became part of J.R.’s unmistakable look and Hagman continued wearing the distinctive Day-Date setup decades later, including when he returned to the role for the Dallas revival in 2012.

Roy Rogers w/ Colt 1911.

Born Leonard Slye, 1911–1998, the “King of the Cowboys,” rose to fame as a singing Western film and TV star alongside Trigger and Dale Evans.

An avid sport shooter and trap competitor, he amassed a substantial personal firearms collection of roughly 150 guns and custom gun leather, including gold-plated and engraved Colt Single Action Army revolvers (such as his favored “101” pair), Winchester Model 21 presentation shotguns, and other Western pieces displayed in the Roy Rogers–Dale Evans Museum.

After the museum closed, the collection was auctioned, with notable items fetching high prices. Rogers’ on-screen heroism and elaborate holstered six-guns helped popularize the romantic cowboy image. His extensive merchandising included countless licensed toy cap pistols, while commemorative firearms (including limited-edition Ruger and U.S. Historical Society Single Actions) and his public support for shooting sports further boosted interest in Western-style guns among collectors and enthusiasts.

Edward Bohlin

(1895–1980) was a renowned Swedish-American saddlemaker and silversmith, celebrated as the “Saddlemaker to the Stars.”

Born Emil Helge Bohlin near Örebro, Sweden, he immigrated to the U.S. around 1910 at age 15. He worked as a cowboy and ranch hand in Montana and Wyoming, including on Buffalo Bill’s ranch in Cody, where he opened his first shop in 1920. In the early 1920s, Bohlin moved to Hollywood and established his famous workshop on Sunset Boulevard. There, he crafted exquisite silver-mounted parade saddles, buckles, gun rigs, and leather gear known for their intricate design, durability, and showmanship.

His work adorned Hollywood legends like Tom Mix, Roy Rogers, Gene Autry, John Wayne, Hopalong Cassidy, and the Lone Ranger, helping define the glamorous visual style of the Western film and entertainment industry.

Over his career, Bohlin produced more than 12,000 saddles. He blended authentic cowboy functionality with ornate artistry, elevating Western tack into a symbol of glamour and craftsmanship that influenced popular culture for decades. Today @bohlinmade is still recognized as the pinnacle of western luxury.
