Coffee chaff from our roastery gets recycled as bedding for chickens at Trilok Garden in Brooklyn and as bokashi chaff. Bokashi is a method of organic waste fermentation and coffee chaff is a great substrate for the microbial inoculant. It is mixed up in batches and fermented for two weeks before it air dries in bread trays. Once the chaff is dry, it can be used to inoculate food scraps in 5 gallon buckets. (Coffee chaff is a by-product of the coffee roasting process - it is the protective skin of the coffee cherry that falls off once the coffee is roasted.) #coffeechaff #reuse #repurpose #recycle #chickens #brooklyn #localroaster #bokashi #compost #coffee
