Welcome to Cassens, Afton Ray!
She builds her paintings in layers, working in what is called Expressive Realism. This includes translucent strokes, vibrant color, and a metallic glazing that gives the surface depth. Her current works draw from the rodeo and open country right outside her door along the Yellowstone River. Check out all her work at the link in bio.

Buckaroo! 🤠🐎 What a fun term for some bold, punchy artwork!

We found some cool synonyms for Buckaroo:

Cowpuncher

Cowpoke

Waddy

Gaucho

Hussar

But actually, the term comes from the Spanish word for cowboy, which is Vaquero.

Derived from vaca—the Spanish word for cow—and pronounced vah-kair-oh, the word's Spanish "v" sounds phonetically like the English "b," resulting in the Anglicized word buckaroo. Try it: vaquero, backero, buckaroo.*

No? Nevertheless, that’s where the term comes from! 😊

Speaking of Buckaroo, we’re announcing a new addition to our site!

Afton of Bold.West.Art on Instagram has joined us with 3 of her most fun mini Buckaroos (in order l to r), “Paintin’”, “Sky Blue”, “Wild”, all seen through our ‘Featured Artists’ menu, link in our bio.

We’re in the process of curating a few more artists for our site, so watch for these new additions!

So while Kathi was celebrating her birthday, I had a great day at Western Art Week last Saturday!

Yes, I treated myself to some fun decor and display things!

A gorgeous tea towel from @bevpolkhandweaver

A precious print for my shelf from @bold.west.art

An adorable ceramic horse from @countrygirlclay

And the best part was spending the day absorbing as much art as each of us possibly could with my wonderful daughter, @whitneyhallart !

Can't think of a better day! ☺️

I had the wonderful opportunity of competing in the Miss Montana Volunteer Organization last week. I met sooo many wonderful girls, and we all got to bond over service projects and hours of LONG rehearsals throughout the week.😂 This was such a rewarding experience and this organization truly stands for such a good cause and supports these girls through multiple scholarships. I was able to walk away with many everyday tools, friendships, and scholarships. A big thank you to everyone that supported me and congratulations to all these girls. Good luck this year!
