🚨 NOLLYWOOD LOSES A GIANT… EDO WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER OLU JACOBS! 🕊️🎬

Legendary Nollywood and global screen icon Olu Jacobs passed away earlier today, leaving behind an extraordinary legacy spanning decades.

Though proudly Egba from Abeokuta, Ogun State, Olu Jacobs built a special connection with Edo history and storytelling through some unforgettable epic productions.

He appeared in ADESUWA (2012), the Lancelot Oduwa @lancelotimasuen historical epic rooted in the Benin Kingdom, and also featured in IKOKA (2004), which explored the political intrigues and succession struggles during the reign of Oba Ewuakpe of Benin.

He also brought his unmistakable presence to THE ANTIQUE, another major Nigerian epic production.

Olu Jacobs didn’t have to be Edo to help tell Edo stories. Through his craft, commanding voice and legendary screen presence, he helped bring parts of our history and culture to audiences far beyond our borders.

In 1994, Hakeem Belo-Osagie @hakeembelo.osagie , from the Oloke family of the historic Benin Kingdom, made one of the boldest moves in Nigerian banking history.

At only 39 years old, he led the acquisition of a 51% controlling stake in United Bank for Africa (UBA) during Nigeria’s privatization programme.

Young at that time , highly educated and entering the very top of Nigerian banking, Belo-Osagie became widely known as a “whiz kid.”

And the résumé was seriously intimidating : Oxford University, Cambridge University and Harvard Business School.

Years later, Belo-Osagie exited UBA before its 2005 merger with Standard Trust Bank, a landmark deal that helped shape the UBA we know today.

From the red soil of Edo to the commanding heights of Nigerian finance.
