An evening of books, voices, and unfiltered expressions.
Stories read aloud, mics passed around, muffins, laughter, the quiet in between.

Book Title: Hafsatu Bebi
Book Author: Fatima Bala

Fatima takes readers on a truly immersive journey of roller coasters of emotions. From the moment we get introduced to the first character, Ibrahim, we get completely immersed in the story and we can’t put the book down.

Set in the Northern part of Nigeria, the writer exposes readers to a lot of cultural diversities, belief systems and norms, prevalent in that region. She uses the everyday happenings in that area to explore/expose and saliently talk about issues prevalent in the North (and Africa at large as a patriarchal society) such as domestic violence, sexual abuse/assualt, murder, anger related issues, vodoo (superstitious beliefs) and love of course.

She also delves into scientific exposures by driving her story through the angles of DNAs. She does this in such a manner that the whole story connects. I consider this piece a true love story and I applaud her so much for ensuring that every single piece and detail of her writing connected by the end of her tale.

Without giving out a lot, this book solidified a lot of things I already knew about the north being that I grew up there. The love story was truly endearing as you found yourself rooting for them all. I can read this book over and over again.

A true page turner in every sense, I rate it a SOLID 9.5

The only reason I’ve not made a video review on this amazing book is because I don’t know how to review a book ( especially if it’s a video ) without spoilers so I will make this review short, not because I can’t make a longer one but because I truly want everyone to experience every chapter of this book just the way or even more than the way I did. But here are a few interesting aspects/lessons from this book that I’ll like to share 👇👇

Firstly; I knew Ella was going to go back; you cannot experience Christ in a certain way and go back to the life you were living.

Secondly; Grief is personal; you cannot teach someone how to grief you can only offer guidance.

Thirdly; it takes a lot to make peace with the fact that even if a church failed you God did not fail you.

Fourthly; As funny as it may sound, the fear of chief led Ella back to God more than once 😂

And lastly;one character’s death would have been avoided and the book would have still ended well ; I just need to look for the author and fight with her for letting the character die and making me cry at maximum cruising altitude 😂

I truly enjoyed every single page of this book and i wish i could read it again for the first time.
