Marty Laughlin (4/27/53-8/31/26)

My dad was a country boy from Keyser West Virginia, he was incredibly intelligent and worked his butt off to get a full ride scholarship to college and eventually get an engineering job in Ohio. He was the gentlest kindest man I’ve ever met. Shy, but also hilarious. He supported any version of myself I ever wanted to be, when I came out to him at 13 in 2003 before school one day it was as if I told him I had eggs for breakfast. He never once questioned me, instead he offered up wisdom about protecting myself and making smart choices as a young gay man. I would not be the confident queer artist that I am without this man.

My dad has been sick for the past couple of years, and yesterday we sadly lost him. I feel incredibly lucky that I have been able to have so many great moments with him despite his health decline. Last summer he even mustered up all his strength to see me perform one last time. Over Christmas, I got to introduce him to my fiancé, Lachlan, and in one of our last conversations he told me he felt so happy I found love.

Sending all my love to my angel on earth of a stepmother Diana, who without her steadfast love and dedicated care we might not have gotten these past 4 years with him. You were the love of my dad’s life and saved him long before he ever got sick.

Goodbye for now, sweet dad.
It is very hard to say goodbye, but I am also relieved you are at peace now, and free of pain.

If you would have told me a year ago today that in one year I’d be fully U-Haul lesbian moved in with the handsome British man from Scruff I was about to get a drink with, I would have said lol diva relax. Lachlan Bond you hilarious, charming, sexy, life of the party ass Prince from the English country side I don’t know what I did to deserve you. My mom tells her friends that I found my Hallmark Movie and she’s absolutely right. I truly never thought I’d ever find love like this in my lifetime and I don’t know how I lived my life without it.
