Time’s Up UK and US-based diversity and inclusion platform Black Beauty Roster (BBR) celebrated and championed hair and makeup equity on set at an inaugural salon event on 14th February at Claridge’s, London.

Naomie Harris says, “Achieving hair and makeup equity on set is not just about fairness—it’s about creating a space where every actor feels seen, respected, and able to give their best. I’m proud to stand with Time’s Up UK and Black Beauty Roster to help ensure this vital change continues to gain momentum”.

The Movement by Maude.

Answer me this: What will you be celebrating in the hair equity and beauty space in 5 years? Was the question that Maude, CEO @blackbeautyroster so brilliantly poised to the panel and can I tell you something? I have not let it go...

Here's the thing (and I've talked about this before) as a little girl (mom has the pictures) I use to pull out my hair to the point of being bald frustrated that my beauty didn't fit in, that my hair had coils, that my hair shrinks when wet and we won't talk about the bullying I got for my lips that people now buy-the irony. Yes, the lack of self-love was real...

So as I heard the responses from the dynamic panelists, I heard my younger self saying thank you to Maude for asking the question that so many are privately wondering or struggling with especially at a time when the word "diversity" is being weaponized.

So, yes it was a fashion week event, yes I planned it in under a week, yes it was beautiful to look at thanks for my creative partners, BUT also know that this evening was a movement curated by Maude and friends to shout from the rooftop that black is and has always been beautiful. Periodt!

So now what? Well I would suggest this: Whoever you are and however you identify, proclaim your beauty, boldly and unapologetically because the world DOES need diversity and for my biz folks it's the right thing to do AND good for business.

This Joy!! An extraordinary moment to be back in Ghana with @vp and the US delegation as the United States focuses on economic empowerment of women, climate resilience, entrepreneurship and the digital economy in Africa.

Ghana’s hospitality was unmatched. From the State banquet dinner hosted by his excellency, Nana Akufo Addo @nakufoaddo to honor Vice President Kamala Devi Abena Harris (yes, she’s officially Ghanaian) to the @vp momentous speech at Black Star Square, Ghana’s landmark symbol of independence commissioned by Ghana’s first president Kwame Nkrumah. What a full circle moment and an honor to be a guest of the Vice President. She said it best. This is not about what we can do “for” Africa, but what we can do “with” Africa. African ideas and innovations will shape the future of the world. Ghana will lead the charge. As a proud Ghanian American, I am filled with so much joy and hope for what is to come. An opportunity of a lifetime.
