POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Historically I’ve kept this account just covering my wedding and engagement work, but I’m going to branch out a bit and start sharing more of all my work at large. Hope that’s ok with everyone here :) I’ve had the opportunity to photograph some really fun fashion, editorial, product, architecture, families/maternity etc. and I’ve always shied away from sharing anything outside of the wedding sphere here.

Seen here is some recent work I did for @bonsaiheirloom in the Bay Area.

⛩️ What’s something small that has a lot of meaning to you? Let me know in the comments—I’d love to hear your story.

⛰️ When I was younger, I used to joke with my family about growing old with a long white wizard beard, living in a cabin on a mountain with my bonsai trees. My obsession with bonsai weirded them out, but it also sparked conversations, and that’s how I ended up with my very first bonsai tree.🌳

🎄 On Christmas 2019, my brother came home with a small, round-trunked Ficus Ginseng bonsai tree in a bold brown pot. 🎁 It was too big for the tree’s size, but I didn’t care—I was so excited. At the same time, I was terrified. I had no idea how to take care of a bonsai tree. I’d move it back and forth between the porch and my room, water it every now and then,💧 and think, What am I supposed to do with you?

😷 Then the pandemic hit in March 2020, and my memory around that time gets blurry. I moved out of the house I was living in to stay with my stepmom. Not long after, on June 11th, 2020, I was rushed to the hospital by ambulance. 🚑 I woke up three days later to the news that I had four brain tumors.

🥀 I completely forgot about my bonsai tree. My focus shifted to survival—chemo, proton therapy, and navigating the isolation that came with it. But even in the hospital, bonsai stuck with me. 📱 I started watching bonsai videos on YouTube, from notable artists like @bonsaiheirloom @herons_bonsai to put me at ease when the overwhelming silence got to be too much.

🎗️After five long months, I went into remission. When I was finally able to visit my dad and stepmom, I found my Ficus Ginseng still alive, sitting on the outdoor table. I took the only picture I have of it. It didn’t survive much longer, but I find it beautiful that this little tree held on through everything, just like I did.

☀️ That tree stayed alive long enough to see me again.

This is a special plant. Mom gave it to us the day Ellie was born. It was maybe 5 inches tall at the time. 4 years later, finally took the plunge to prune and wire it. 🤞🏼
