Hey loves happy Wednesday 💗 my days have definitely gotten better since the weekend. I went to my interview and I got the job and start on Monday!

So I took myself to indigo today celebrate I haven’t been in ages since books our just so expensive there. I did in fact make it out without a book which I’m very impressed with. However I did get a new jellycat 🥰

What’s a new release you’re excited to read?

Up next, I'm reading:

A Dragon of the Veil by Nick Snape.

In a realm falling apart, a dishonored Elven Warrior and a surviving and embittered Crusader bearing God's Weapons are a people's last hope.
With the secrets of God's Scripture exposed, an alchemical experiment and whispers of ancient evil... Even God's Weapons know fear.

"For cast in iron and spiritfire - Here Be Dragons."

---

@nick.snape.author recently reached out to me and asked if I would be interested in reading his new novel. It's Warriors of Spirit and Bone Book One and I am definitely a sucker for a series.

Now I don't often take authors up on these offers - mainly because I'm aware of how much of a mood reader I am, and I'd feel terrible about not getting to them within reasonable time...
But after reading Nick's description and then the Blurb, I was intrigued.

As of now I'm 15 pages in and already impressed.
It doesn't shy away from describing the darkness and gore, that go hand in hand with war.

Now I'm gonna go get stuck into this for an hour or so before work!

📚Books I wanted to love📚

Do you ever have books you so badly want to love but just end up not liking that much?

I always feel awful when I don't enjoy a book like I think I'm going to.

Despite all the hype and what everyone else says and I still am just not into it.

Here's a few of mine that I just ended up not being that into:
- One Dark Window
- It Ends With Us
- Haunting/Hunting Adeline
- The Southern Book Clubs Guide to Slaying Vampires
- The Lost Apothecary
- Iron Flame

Tagging some folks in this new challenge because I want to see yours.

Flying Ant Day!

So yesterday I had a lovely day reading at the park, photosynthesising, chilling with friends. Then, whilst I was walking home... the swarm began!
Constantly bombarding us, bouncing off my head, humping in my hair...

Now I know most people hate Flying Ant day, but I genuinely look forward to it every year.

It brings back fond memories of camping as a kid, us all sat in the tent, reading and playing cards. All to a backdrop of thousands of shadow ants having an orgy across the canvas.

Ants are fascinating!

- Do you know about Leaf Cutters, who grow fungus in their underground gardens?
- That some ants will enslave other species?
- How about Vampire Ants? They feed on the blood of their own children!

I even have common ants defending a little plant in my garden - they are protecting and milking the aphids on it, for their honeydew. (sugary poop)

Anyway, the new Queens will be chewing off their wings and going into hiding...
Leaving the men to die alone and spent - but finally satisfied.
What a way to go, eh?! 🤣

So, we shouldn't fear the ants, we should be happy for them! They're cooped up for most of the year. All pent up and frustrated.
So we should let them enjoy their sex party!

Oh yeah, I should talk about the book... But I've still not started it yet... 😂

Sacrificial Waters by A.D Jones

"You entered this world kicking and screaming from the waters of the womb, how fitting it is that you shall leave it the same way."

Urb-Oboros are a group of Urban Explorers, often going out trips to old abandoned buildings. Some of them are there for the thrill, some on the lookout for ghosts. Some are lovers, or friends or loners.
All that matters, is they go together to a hidden cave within the Peak District, and swim in it's ancient waters.
That they've woken a malevolent evil...
Can they survive the Sacrificial Waters?

This was my second book by A.D Jones and just as Umbrate was a fantastic addition to the Urban Fantasy genre, Sacrificial Waters is a stunning foray into Horror!

And I totally had fun scrambling up a valley, to find a cave for this picture. 😂

There are a lot of reasons I enjoyed this book so much. The characters feel very real - their motivations and personalities come across naturally. Leading to some great dialogue, banter and confrontation.

"We've got fuckery happening"

The Evil Witch felt just that.
Evil. Uncompromising. And a Bitc - I mean Witch!

The slow reveal of its past was well done, I do like to be kept guessing!
And whilst a big part of me always wants to know about the Lore and History, sometimes that lack of understanding adds much to the Horror.

The plot builds steadily, before taking off in a high adrenaline race. The action pulling me through the chapters.

What really grasped me however, was the descriptive and gory horror. It manages to toe that line between entertaining and stomach churning.
Or maybe that's my own messed up brain - either way, it had me hooked!

'The woman's hand became a resting fist, grabbing a handful of hair and forcing her head downwards, grinding her throat back and forth across the broken glass.'

If you're a fan of Horror, Ghosthunting or Urban Exploring, then you'll love this one!

A.D Jones is definitely an Indie Author to keep your eyes on, go give him a follow at @the_evergrowing_library.
You can see what else he has in the works and get great book recommendations from the man himself.

Point Horror Books:
They were a staple of my teenage years!

Alongside the big Horror Authors such as King, Herbert and Laymon - I used to buy every Point Horror that I could get my hands on.

After the Cull of YA and Kids horror that my library had whilst I was away at uni, I've been slowly getting them back on my shelves!

There are particular books from the series that have been a priority though - and these were near the top of the list.

The Vampires Love books by Janice Harrell had amongst my favourite covers and one of my favourite stories, so I'm VERY happy to have these back on my shelves 🙌🏼

Other Point Horrors I'm keeping an eye out for:

The Hitchhiker(priority, by RL Stine)
The Diary
The Fever
The Vampires Promise
The Dead Game
The Perfume

And finally, The Forbidden Game Trilogy
- So I already have picked these up in an omnibus version, from a different publisher, but I want the originals for sure. I absolutely loved their covers!

I'm also looking for all the Point Horror "Unleashed" books, the main ones I'm looking for are:

Fright Train(priority)
The Vanished
At Gehenna's Door
The Carver
Transformer

I've already got my favourite: Catchman.
In fact, you may have read some other books by its Author - Chris Wooding, who has since risen to fantasy fame with The Darkwater Legacy books.
I can't wait to start The Ember Blade!!!

✨ QOTD: What's your favourite YA horror novel?
