Short Straw Bride by @karen.witemeyer

Meredith Hayes knows that the Archers work extra hard at keeping people off their land, but when she overhears a plot to burn them out of their home, she knows that she must risk everything to warn them.
Travis Archer doesn't take well to people trespassing, but when he realizes who Meredith is, he knows that he can trust what she has to say. Unfortunately, when a plot against him and his family causes her to become injured and puts her reputation at risk, he knows he must marry her, even if they barely know eachother. With their land at risk and a man willing to stop at nothing as a threat to them all, can they become eachothers guiding light ?

Another great Karen Witemeyer backlist book ! I buddy read this with @bookloveramanda and we both really enjoyed it. I know that some people found issue with the subject of marital intimacy that was adressed, but in my opinion it was done tastefully and was a fully valid point to bring to light given the situation of marriage of convenience. Neither one of the main characters had parents to turn to or that would have spoken to them about the subject before their deaths given their ages, and so , to see the honorable way our MMC went about wanting to court our FMC and be respectful of her is a perfectly valid plot point to contend with. ( nothing ever happens on page as to be expected in a Christian fiction by Karen Witemeyer). The personal growth of each character was well done and I hated the villain. I think we will like this series and I can't wait for our next buddy read for it.

6/12 - We’re gonna title this post “Mid-Year Muddles,” because summer is the time where the months muddle together and there’s a lot of the same things going on. Which means I don’t have a lot of new things to report! 😂

The fun things that happened this month were my two weekend trips - one to Murfreesboro with Will and one to Nashville to meet up with Hannah and Amanda. I’m grateful to have the time and flexibility to make trips like these work. Spending time with and pouring into my people is never wasted time. ☺️

I’m still cooking, birding, and enjoying Saturday morning breakfast and park walks. I’ve finally picked up my reading speed again, but I’m also mindful that when I do this my Bible time is significantly less. So, I’m trying to find a good balance there. 🩷

While I’m not looking forward to the sweltering summer heat of July, I am really excited about my annual girls trip. Here’s to hoping I capture enough photos and reel content to make the memories last a little while! 🤭

Beautiful Storm by @mandi_blake_author

Tori has everything she thought she could need ; a doctor husband, a great job, a loft in Chicago ... until in an instant, everything is gone. Reeling from the after effects of infidelity, she ends up in Carson and meets brooding bad boy Marcus. He is quiet, observant, and always knows when she needs him. But Marcus has brothers and a sister that he is responsible for, and he isnt sure that he wants to impose all of his baggage on Tori. When tragedy strikes, Tori wants to be there for him like he has been there for her. Can they learn to lean on eachother and finally find the person who makes life easier to walk through ?

Another backlist Mandi Blake book from the Unfailing Love series checked off. And another buddy read with my friend Amanda ( @bookloveramanda ) . In this book we see a woman faced with watching her marriage fall apart and be forced to examine whether she ever really let him in. Our MMC is so focused on raising his siblings that he doesnt feel as if a romantic relationship will ever be possible for himself. When they come together it is an instant connection that grows quickly into more. Though it was a little quick for my own personal liking, I know that in her more recent books Mandi's pacing has gotten better, and so I can excuse it in a backlist. The characters and their stories were really well flushed out as usual, and it added the depth needed. I liked getting Marcus' story since he has been a very present side character in the other books from the series. I liked both of our main characters and all in all it was a good read, even if there were little things here and there that my own personal preference would have done a little differently in terms of timing. But I am enjoying this series as a whole and I just love Mandis storytelling❤️.

Yesterday I was able to travel to Nashville to spend the day with Hannah and Amanda, and it reminded just how truly grateful I am that God saw fit for me to find sisters in Christ in this space. Hannah and I have been besties for a while, but this was our first time meeting Amanda. I have known who she was for years, but it wasn’t until recently that we really got to talking more and finally made plans to meet in person. She is such a sweetheart and an absolute hoot to hang out with! One of my favorite things in this life is having the opportunity to drop everything and travel to meet some of the best people. Thank you, Jesus, for these friends of mine! 🩷

Living Hope by @mandi_blake_author

But the way he cares for her makes her see a very different possibility for her life, one where she has a chance at love... if the past doesnt detroy it for her.

Another backlist book from Mandi Blake's Unfailing Love series. I enjoyed this one because it had a lot of deeper emotional things going on. This book is a forshadowing of how well Mandi Blake will come to write her future series. Yes, there was an insta-love type feel, but it was more the fault of the circumstances that the main characters faced. It bonded them easily. This was a good book that I got to buddy read with my friend @bookloveramanda , and we both agreed that the writing and story in this one shows the growth that was already happening for one of our fave authors. Love when backlists arent flops ! Pick this up if you love Mandi Blake !
