✨ BOOK REVIEW ✨
🎸 The People We Keep by Allison Larkin 3.5/5 ⭐️’s

April is an abandoned teen, untethered to any one person or place. Her parents both left her, school is not a fit, and her high school sweetheart is content to just stay in their small home town. April decides to get unstuck and leaves, relying on her musical talent and beat-up car to take her to a new life.

I would categorize this as a sappy read that is sad but makes you happy somehow. I read this as another fun #readalong with @sydneys_bookclub and really enjoyed everyone’s perspectives on April’s motivations.

QOTD - Have you purchased any fall decor yet? I have purchased some for my room and for bookstagram pictures since traveling to any store takes forever on the bus and I have midterm papers for most of my classes coming up in October. 🤣

For today, I decided to do another #Fallstack but this time spelling out the word Fall with my books! Originally, I only had the letters F, A, and L but I decided to go to a cute bookstore in Berkeley to pick up another book that started with an L!

Here are the books in my #spellfallstack
🍂 F - Frankenstein in Baghdad by Ahmed Saadawi
🍂 A - A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle
🍂 L - Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng
🍂 L - The Lost Dogs by Jim Gorant

I tagged some other bookstagrammers to do the #spellfallbookchallenge as well! 😊

𝐑𝐄𝐕𝐈𝐄𝐖:

❝𝐊𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐝𝐨𝐦 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐖𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐞𝐝❞ By Kerri Maniscalco

I LIVE FOR THIS BOOK. I am not kidding. Kingdom of the wicked is probably my favourite YA fantasy. It has the works: a slowburn romance, an enemies to lovers arc, MORALLY GREY characters, an amazing murder mystery, all set in a fun, fantastical setting.

Characters:
I like Emillia. While she may be a little bit typical mc, I still love her anyway. AND WRATH, let me tell you, HE IS MORALLY GREY. lives and breathes grey. I am in love. Not gonna lie, he may be the soul reason this book is as addictive as it is. I love the slow burn, and the ‘will they won’t they’ Emilia and Wrath have going on, and I couldn’t be more excited to see how their relationship progresses.

Plot:
I think the plot is definitely what makes this book so enjoyable. We’ve got a interesting and additive murder mystery, a toxic but loveable enemies to lovers relationship, and morally grey baddie characters. What more could you want? The plot is quite well paced and definitely keeps you engaged and entertained. THE ENDING AND PLOT TWIST WAS chefs kiss*

If this review isn’t enough to convince you to read this book, I don’t know what will.

WARNING: Do not go into this expecting a romance. This is a equally based fantasy murder mystery as it is an addictive romance. Although I ADORE wrath and emillia, definitely expect more of a plot based fantasy mystery mixed with an enticing romance.

@kerrimaniscalco , PLEASE GIVE ME THE NEXT BOOK NOW 😩😩😩

Have you read this book? Let me know what you thought of it!
