Bill Schmitt and Jeff Mitchell have been married for 25 years. They have been married twice. The first time was on March 11, 2004 when same sex marriages were allowed in the city of San Francisco. They did this as more an act of civil disobedience to protest the lack of marriage rights for gay couples, knowing that marriage ceremonies would be dissolved by the California Supreme Court (which happened two weeks later). Still, it was a magical day full of hope and love and one they will cherish forever. On December 11, 2013, Bill and Jeff were officially married in Kauai, in a private sunset ceremony when same sex marriage became legal in Hawaii. I asked them what makes their relationship work and this is what they said:

“There is an old Dr. Suess saying that goes "We are all a little weird and life's a little weird, and when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall in mutual weirdness and call it love.” We have embraced our mutual weirdness and, together with laughter and not taking ourselves too seriously, have been able to create a wonderful life together. We kind of live by this and we had the minister include it in our wedding vows.

Bill is the owner of Travel Now Vacations, a full service travel agency that focuses on providing the most comprehensive service to clients seeking unique itineraries and destinations. For more information, visit www.travelnowvacations.com or on Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter.
