Thanks for the ride - last post from the SloCroBoH ‘22 abroad. Everyone is off to their next adventure!
But not before some of us did a sunrise walk to honor those who have come before us with this amazing program. 💛

And that’s a wrap… our adventure has come to a close after a final dinner, a strollato (trademark pending), & a gratitude session.
Please continue to follow the individual members to see more as inevitably we’ll all be posting something as we digest and feel overwhelmed with appreciation.
Thank you to our friends here, our guides, and the people with whom we only came in passing connection in all three countries - sLOVEnia, Croatia, and Bosnia & Herzegovina. Please ask us questions as we’d love to teach you too!

Weather kept our adventure delayed - but we jump for joy that we got to go see this amazing place.
Where the air was crisp, the cable car swift, & the ski lift old school - the colors popped and the camera shutters went crazy.
Velika Planina is a one of the oldest and largest pasture areas in the Slovene Alpine region. They are still functioning and boasting original structures - though not as used as much as before. Like many things we’ve shared, we hope you’ll come learn more in the fall at our slideshow!

As we get closer to our final days, maybe we should show you a bit more reality…
1 - What group pictures actually should look like - some ready, most not.
2 - That making friends with locals is an actual thing (often the locals are food proprietors because they’re awesome and we love food).
3 - We shop in every town/city and generally not alone.
4 - We have become connoisseurs of tap water.
5 - Sometimes we lay down in the middle of things because we’re tired.
6 - We are open to trying new foods.
7 - We are always ready for our next photo shoot and stand accordingly.
8 - We like to befriend statues… of which there are many. (See previous posts for other examples).
9 - While not a .5 selfie (or maybe it is), there are a lot taken in any given day.
10 - One can never have too many desserts in a single sitting.
Bottom line - while we’re learning tons, (like today at Grad Strmol) we’re also having a ton of fun.

A key life skill is learning what you do when plans change unexpectedly. For our group, this meant we ended up with. Bled adventure day. After a heft-ty hike to the castle (legit view though), we made the most of the big, blue, beautiful lake.
We had SUP & canoe adventurists, we had fishing, we had runners & walkers (6km around the lake), we had rowers for ice cream, & finally we had rowers who thought they’d be able to compete with professionals (this theory is still under review) - there was quite an array of ways to enjoy it all (not all photographed - but all made memories).
With a presentation on bees 🐝 by SopH, a church service a day early, & sonnet work - it was a wonderfully full day 💛

Italy! Another country checked off. Even more impressive? We walked there.
For those who are still in awe, we appreciate your faith in our commitment. But alas, we must let you know that the reason all of these statements are true & the same time misleading is because the countries border each other. We were at the site of some of the WW1 trenches because the border moved less that 5 feet after the first world war.
It was fascinating to see and learn, especially as we’d heard a lot about the hardships. Our only hardship was we couldn’t be there taking pictures all day.
We kept on keeping on, stopped for a dip in the incomparable Soča River, did 50 switchbacks to Vršc Pass, saw Triglav through fog, and settled in in Bled. We’ll be here for a couple days!

From the sea to the mountains…
We’re entering our final week (😳) & it is entirely in Slovenia. There is very little coastal access (think only 29 miles), but Slovenia uses what it has well. Just next door to the gorgeous coastal town of Piran, are the Sečovlje Salt Flats, of which Geena gave us a presentation last night. The “fleur de sel” is definitely a treat to the tastebuds, which isn’t surprising considering the labor it takes to harvest it.
We popped over to Piran for a walk along the old walls, a climb to the top of the belltower, lunch & a final dip in the blue Adriatic waters.
We then drove to our hotel for the night where Japhet gave us a presentation on Kobarid & WWI which preps us for our history lesson (via museum and walking trails) tomorrow.
