September is one of our favorite times to dine on Nantucket. The island is quieter, the pace is slower, and some of the tables that felt impossible to get all summer are suddenly available.

Sometimes I forget how easy it is to get to Nantucket using the fast ferry from New Bedford. It’s only 30 minutes from Providence and the ferry terminal has valet parking or a large self parking lot with a shuttle to the dock. Now that it’s after Labor Day, the ferry stops first in Martha’s Vineyard, but in two hours, you are in Nantucket, less time during the summer. It is so easy to walk around town or catch the Wave shuttle to one of the beaches. With great restaurants and shops, it’s like a mini vacation in one day trip.
