A week ago, I cried at work because Dolly Parton died and it felt so silly. Then two hours later, my cousin calls me to tell me… my Auntie Jeanne unexpectedly died during her hip replacement surgery. LOVE crying at work, Auntie Jeanne! I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it for the rest of my days: My three Aunties, Auntie Jeanne, Auntie Debbie, and Auntie Betty Ann, are all why I am who I am. In each of their own special ways, they have taught me how to be, how to love, how to fight, how to care, how to listen, and most importantly, how to not give a fuck. And even though the most inevitable part of life is death, not having all three of them in my life one day has never been a thought that has crossed my mind. Auntie Jeanne, you were a fucking force. You were an ally to queer and trans and BIPOC people everywhere for your whole life, defying your father and other family members and you taught me how to do the same. You cared deeply for your communities. You were a veteran. You fought for woman’s rights, and said fuck the system out LOUD and I got to follow suit. My Aunties all gave me great taste in music, and so did my cousins, and for that I’m so thankful. I love you for loving me unconditionally in the truest and best way, when some of my family still doesn’t understand how to. We feel you all around, in the crows, in the flowers, in the sun, in ocean… Forever and ever, love you Auntie Jeanne. 🖤🥀 @rubyxdarling Em, my eldest cousin, always and forever my favourite cousin, the one I’ve always looked up to, and always will, you lost your mama and it breaks my fucking heart. You and your mama have been my family here in the PNW for almost a decade combined, and now it’s just the two of us out here together—two betch slut pig cousins for the holigays. I love you and am thankful for your wisdom, your strength, your leadership, and your dgaf attitude that you also taught me how to have.
