Today is International Wheelchair Day!

I think people are way too quick to make days like this about validity politics and educating non-wheelchair users. In reality, this day is for US. It’s about celebrating our community and being with each other. It’s about supporting and uplifting wheelchair-users. It’s not a day to repeat the same few phrases about what’s “valid” that ultimately make days like this into meaningless internet battles and make wheelchair-users be treated as free googles for invasive questions.

Community is EVERYTHING. We need and deserve spaces to not be the only wheelchair-user in the room. We need to laugh and play with people like us. We need to collaborate. I can’t put into words the amount of knowledge and kindness that was in this room today. Wheelchair-users are some of the absolute most resilient, resourceful, and accepting people you will ever meet. Everyone was supporting each other both in our strengths and weaknesses. No one was trying to prove anything to each other.

I got to try volt hockey for the first time and I LOVED it!! I also played power soccer and instantly remembered how incredibly fun it is. I made a goal (slide 9🙂‍↕️)!!!! I definitely didn’t have the mobility to try wheelchair rugby but it was so cool to watch! Phyre tried out a chair and had lots of fun haha!

Wheelchair-users are the coolest people ever. It is so special to be in a room full of people that get it

I am so greatful I got to spend this International Wheelchair Day exactly as it was meant to be spent

“Success occurs when opportunity meets preparation.” – Zig Ziglar

Life may have taken me on a longer route, but I never lost sight of one of my biggest dreams. 🤡🌪️

I kept preparing, believing, and pushing forward. If you truly and genuinely desire something, keep working for it—life will open that door, and the opportunity will come sooner or later

Grateful for life and the path it has taken me on. Especially for those who have helped me along the way, turning obstacles into stepping stones.🚀
