🌴🚇 Dorado → Río Piedras: a neighbor’s guide to the coolest Saturday market 🇵🇷

Sharing because sometimes I don’t try new places simply because I don’t know where to go, where to park, what to expect, or whether it’ll be a giant pain with small kids. 😂 Then you do it once and realize… oh. That was EASY.

I love the markets around Puerto Rico because they each have their own personality. This one is less “buy your produce for the week” and more local artists, small businesses, vintage + secondhand clothes, upcycled stuff, records, food, drinks, live music and people hanging out. It feels like a little urban experience rather than just shopping.

🚗 How we do it from Dorado:

Drive to the Bayamón Tren Urbano station and park for free.

🚇 Hop on the train to Río Piedras. It comes about every 10-12 minutes, it’s clean, comfortable and air conditioned, and with little kids the train ride is part of the adventure. 😂

🌴 Get off in Río Piedras and you’re basically a block from the market.

There’s beautiful street art, sculptures, a huge park with an enormous shade tree for kids to run around, and a vegan ice cream shop for an excellent strategic AC break. 😂

Last time we arrived around 11, explored, had lunch, got ice cream, listened to live music and took the train home.

10/10 outing for a 5-year-old, 2-year-old + Mom and Dad. Equally fun for a day date, friend hang, lunch trip, or excuse to explore somewhere different.

The market is the second Saturday of every month, so GO TOMORROW!

And selfishly, I want more of us riding the train. 🚇 PR is studying possibilities for future train expansion, and one of the best ways to demonstrate that people WANT better public transportation is to use what we have.

Because someday hopping on a train in Dorado and getting into the metro area without traffic?! YES PLEASE. 🙌🏼

Support local. Explore PR. Ride the train 🇵🇷🫶🏼🚆
