“She made the tasting educational, engaging, and thoroughly enjoyable.”

That’s how Rod McCowan described the bourbon experience at Bourbon & Architecture. It’s exactly what I aim to bring to every gathering: professional education, thoughtful curation, and storytelling that makes bourbon welcoming and memorable.

Planning a private tasting, corporate experience, curated pairing, or special event? Let’s create something remarkable.

Some folks in the industry have known us as long as ten years & just learning the connection… @bourbonandham is my son-in-law. With my oldest daughter @rachel.d.miller and his brother @ghost___bear, they’ve owned and authored & created more than I can list here. Their personalities & work ethic & drive to feed folks well, be sure they drink well, and know first hand Kentucky hospitality…is unmatched. Be sure to meet them when you make it to Bardstown. @mrtubsbardstown @scoutandscholar @bourbonplus #itinerantdistiller #proudmama

Are you tasting your bourbon… or are you just drinking it? 🥃

There’s a difference — and you don’t need an “expert palate” to learn it.

For this week’s Sip Like a Steward, we’re slowing the pour down and walking through the Five S’s of tasting bourbon: See. Swirl. Smell. Sip. Savor.

Each step gives you another opportunity to notice what’s actually happening in your glass — from the color and aromas to the flavors that linger after the sip.

The goal isn’t to come up with the fanciest tasting note in the room.

It’s to become more intentional about your pour.

So grab a glass, give the Five S’s a try, and tell me below:

🥃 Which S do you tend to skip?

Part 1: The Experience. 🥃

One of the things I loved most about the Kentucky Bourbon Festival was the special invitations, the premium events, the conversations, the food, the music, the education, and all of those moments in between.

From Lux Row Meet the Makers and Bourbon in the Air, to Castle & Key, Whiskey House, Barrels & Biscuits, the World Championship Bourbon Barrel Relay, premium programming, Bourbon:30 and more — KBF was so much more than just walking from booth to booth.

This is Part 1 of my four-part Kentucky Bourbon Festival recap: the experiences, the access, and the moments that made the weekend memorable.

Next up: The Makers.

Sometimes the best whiskey moments are the ones you never planned.

After weeks of traveling through Kentucky and a full Kentucky Bourbon Festival weekend, I came home to a surprise from Michter’s @michterswhiskey
that felt like the perfect little exclamation point on the journey.

Yes, the bourbon made me smile—but so did the thought behind the entire package. And maybe that’s the real story here. For all the special bottles we chase, collect, and wait for, there’s still something wonderful about a classic expression simply finding its place on the bar.

A very thoughtful welcome home.

Thank you, Michter’s. 🥃

🥃 FIRST TIME AT KBF

One of my favorite parts of the Kentucky Bourbon Festival has been meeting the people who came to Bardstown for the very first time.

So I stopped a few first-time KBF festivalgoers and asked a simple question:

What brought you here?

From bourbon lovers traveling in from out of state to a Scotch enthusiast who came along for the ride 😂 — everybody has a different reason for being here.

And that’s part of what makes KBF so much fun.

Different people. Different palates. One big bourbon weekend in Bardstown. 🥃

Is this your first KBF — or are you already planning your return?

🥃 DAY 3 AT KBF | WHISKEY THIEF DISTILLING CO.

Quick chat with Lisa Roper Wicker, Director of Distilling at Whiskey Thief, about the pour you need to stop by their booth and try today:

🔥 HAZMAT RYE.

Yes, there’s heat. Yes, there’s proof. But Lisa says don’t let that scare you — push through it, because underneath is a serious flavor bomb.

And yes… you can buy it. 👀🥃

If you’re at the Kentucky Bourbon Festival today or Sunday, make Whiskey Thief one of your stops. @whiskeythiefdistilling

DAY 3 | STOP 2 — THE HOMECOMING POUR × KENTUCKY BOURBON FESTIVAL 🥃

Now THIS is bourbon culture in action! 🔥

I stepped away from the festival grounds to catch the World Championship Bourbon Barrel Relay, one of those Kentucky Bourbon Festival traditions you really have to see for yourself.

I caught up with the Green River Distilling team and then watched them get to work—rolling, maneuvering and ricking full bourbon barrels against the clock.

The speed, precision and teamwork? Whew! 👏🏾

And I love this because bourbon isn’t only about what ends up in our glass. It’s also about the people whose hands move those barrels, care for them and help make Kentucky bourbon what it is.

Day 3 is moving—and so are these barrels! 😂🥃

The Kentucky Bourbon Festival officially kicked off last night! 🥃

Before heading to Bourbon in the Air, I stopped by the Lux Row Meet the Makers event, where I had the opportunity to sit down with Ian Stirsman, Master Distiller for MGP.

We talked about MGP’s 10-Year “Out of the Shadows” release and what makes this expression—and this moment for MGP—so significant.

Hear directly from Ian about the whiskey, the story behind the release, and what MGP is bringing to bourbon fans.

And just like that… KBF 2026 is underway. 🥃✨
