POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Five years ago today, we were at the Gold Coast with the Australian Olympic Boxing Team when they received their tickets to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. We were in the final leg of production of our feature length documentary The Road To Tokyo, and fortunate to stay with the team for a few days in their final weeks in Australia before they headed overseas.

Last week at the Matchroom Boxing x SLB Fight NIght event was the first time we've seen Skye Nicolson since then. It's always such a joy to look back on where we've all been.

Manhood is such a hot topic at the moment. The idea of what it means to be a man feels more confusing than ever. We grow up searching for a blueprint that doesn’t actually exist, not for manhood, not for womanhood, not for any of us.

What I’ve come to realise is this: instead of chasing rigid definitions, I’d love if we, as a species, started paying more attention to the humans who simply embody goodness. The ones who show us what strength looks like when it’s grounded in care. The ones who lead with love, compassion, and a sense of security. Not just for themselves, but for the people around them.

As today is International Men’s Day, I’m reminded that being a man isn’t about fitting a mould. It’s about choosing, every day, to be someone who lifts others up. Someone who listens. Someone who tries. Someone who grows.

Maybe that’s the closest thing we’ll ever get to a blueprint. It’s not perfection, not toughness, but the courage to become a good human first, and a “man” second.

Here is to some of the men who have helped shape me a little. Also a shoutout to all the women as well, mankind would not be what it is if it wasn’t for your love and care always 🤍
