Rusty Rhino Videos – Episode 11: Matt Laxton’s 1990 BMW R100GS “Bumblebee” – Part 1!

Meet Matt Laxton, one of the original Rusty Rhino members and an all-round interesting bloke with an incredible collection of motorcycles and plenty of stories to go with them.

For Part 1, we’re taking a look at Matt’s 1990 BMW R100GS “Bumblebee” and diving into his love for classic BMW Airheads.

As you can see in the video, Matt has a serious collection of motorcycles, with a particular passion for old-school BMWs.

But what makes his collection even more interesting is that not all of his bikes are here in Australia.

Matt has motorcycles scattered around the world, which he leaves with friends to ride and enjoy while he’s back home. When the opportunity comes up, there’s nothing he loves more than jumping on a plane, arriving overseas, picking up one of his bikes and heading off on another motorcycle adventure.

Motorcycles have also played a huge role in Matt’s working life.

After more than 40 years as a registered nurse, Matt is now retired, but he still puts those skills to good use travelling the world as a marshal and medic at some of the biggest motorcycle racing events on the planet.

His travels have taken him to MotoGP circuits around the world, the Isle of Man, WorldSBK events and plenty more, giving him some incredible experiences and stories along the way.

But for all the travelling, racing and motorcycles around the world, there’s still nothing Matt enjoys more than spending time with his 15-year-old best mate and getting out on one of the vintage bikes from his collection.

Matt has far too many bikes and stories to squeeze into one video, so this is only Part 1.

Stay tuned for Part 2, where we take a closer look at some of the other incredible motorcycles hiding in Matt’s collection.
