Running Ahead

By Sam Janes (@s_am_j_nes )

“After participating in the Harrier Classic on September 4, Boxer men’s and women’s cross country did not have to wait long before their next race. Pacific took part in the Ash Creek invite in Monmouth, Ore. just a week later—and had multiple runners set personal best times; among them, grad student Ria Gill, who ran her 5k in a time of 18:15.6. This fantastic pace put her right at the top of the pack, placing fifth out of the 90 participants. Two other female freshman runners, Emily Davidson and Isabel Camp, also placed in the top 50.”

Before I yap, big thanks to Emmet for coming out to take photos, and a big thanks to Ananda and Tay for making the drive as well as the goat Aaron Brewer and Nicholas Lopez, and well done to everyone who raced, y’all did amazing.

I know this is days late, but I needed some time before I made this. I’m gonna be blunt: That was maybe one of my worst ever races. Started off strong, but slowly just faded away, and then had a “McQueen is fading” last 1.5K. It’s frustrating, it really is, as not only have I never had this bad of a start to a season (except maybe senior year of golf, those who know), but I know I’m so much quicker then what has been advertised. But that’s why we love this sport right? Because even after a bad race, we keep going, because we love chasing that feeling of a PR.

Anyways, some positives were that I placed for the first time and scored 67 points, with Preston scoring 69 (bet you’ve never seen that before from a XC team), and that I finished.

Got a while till Spokane, so from here on out, it’s all about doing everything I can to make sure I finish this year strongly, and show my potential. Again, I’m not just doing this for myself, but for everyone that supports me, cause god I hate letting people down.

As always though, Go Boxers❤️🖤

Boxers Start a New Lap

By Xavier “Big Chop” Walker ( @breadmanxayy)

“A new era for our Pacific University track and field team is underway. After nine years of coaching Pacific cross country and five years leading the track and field programs, longtime head coach Ryan Huntersimms departed the university this summer. Huntersimms leaves behind an impressive legacy, including 30 school records broken during his time as head coach, 15 Northwest Conference champions and 10 All-Americans.”
