The Lab Studios has been one of the most exciting places I’ve walked into since landing in Dubai.

The attention to detail starts before you’ve even arrived. They send you a video showing the best place to park. That single detail tells you everything about how this team thinks. Nothing’s been left unconsidered.

Both owners are clearly invested in what they’re building here, and it shows in every corner of the place.

Anthony took the class. Properly welcoming from the moment I walked in, paired people up thoughtfully before we’d even started, and gave clear instruction throughout. The thing that stood out most was how genuinely pleased he was watching everyone else do well, not just the people at the front.

The food and drink offering is excellent. Showers and changing rooms were spotless, not a detail out of place. And the front of house team greeted everyone with real warmth, not the rehearsed kind.

Nine and a half out of ten. The work that’s gone into this place is obvious from the second you arrive, and it’s entirely deserved.

700 Padel and Fitness Hub. Al Barsha, on Umm Suqeim Street — you’ll have driven past the sign a hundred times without knowing what’s behind it.

Padel and gym, properly separated. Not an afterthought bolted on, two things done well under one roof.

Did a class here and the atmosphere was brilliant. Coach was properly engaging, and the community in that room was better than most gyms manage, let alone a padel club.

Inside, it’s luxury. Spotless. There’s a chill-out area good enough to actually work from, not just sit and scroll. And next door there’s a restaurant I didn’t even get a photo of because I was too busy deciding what to order.

This is going to become a regular one for me.

The owner came down to say hello before I’d even started my set.

Gigafit, Al Quoz. French roots, Dubai flagship. Technogym kit, top of the range. Two floors, artwork everywhere, and somehow still feels like a community despite the size.

8.5/10. Genuinely don’t know how this one’s flying under the radar.

If you’re into Hyrox and you haven’t heard of Chalk, you’ve been living under a rock.

Been training here for my own Hyrox prep. Every session, the big names in this scene are on that floor. Two excellent coaches, loads of kit, somehow never feels chaotic.

8/10. This is where the serious ones train.

Sat down with the Athlo team this week, and it’s stuck with me since.

I’ve spent months arguing that most aggregator platforms are built against the gym. Good for the member’s variety, bad for anyone’s retention. Rent access across a network, and you’re never anyone’s actual member.

Athlo’s built the opposite way round. Instead of pulling members toward other gyms, it lets them recover value from the membership they’ve already got, rent out the days they’re not using, rather than quietly deciding it’s not worth it and cancelling. The gym keeps a paying relationship. The member stops losing money on unused time. Nobody’s incentive runs against anyone else’s.

That’s the bit worth paying attention to. Not another aggregator. The first one actually built to point the same direction as the gym it’s sitting on top of.

@athlouae is the one to watch for all gym owners.
