Another year down, thank God +1 🎂🙏🏾 This one was special. Everything I said I’d achieve, I achieved, and I’m only just getting started. Big love to the people around me who stayed solid and supported me through it all. Onto the next chapter🚀

💔🕊️REST IN PEACE DJ BUXLEY 🕊️💔

The Birmingham music and creative community is mourning the loss of Ehi Oboite, better known as DJ Buxley, who has sadly passed away at the age of 34.

Born in London, Buxley moved to Birmingham after completing a postgraduate degree in Business Studies at Aston University. His love for music began at a young age, and he went on to build a name for himself as a DJ, entrepreneur and community organiser.

In 2018, he launched Boxout Sundays in Digbeth, starting with small gatherings that brought music, games and people together. That vision eventually grew into Boxout Fest, which launched in 2023 and became a major celebration of Black music and culture, including Afrobeats and Dancehall. More than 6,000 people attended the 2025 festival.

Buxley was also known for creating opportunities for emerging DJs, artists and creatives, while supporting community initiatives and charitable causes.

Reports say he died on Saturday after privately battling cancer for four years.

His impact went far beyond music. Friends and colleagues have spoken about his commitment to Birmingham, his generosity towards other creatives and his desire to create spaces where people could come together, enjoy themselves and feel part of a community.

Thank you for the memories, the music, the opportunities and the community you helped build.

🕊️ Rest in peace, DJ Buxley — Ehi Oboite.
Your legacy will live on through Boxout, the creatives you supported and the people whose lives you touched. 🖤

We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Buxley. @buxley__ x

Buxley was a longtime friend and trusted promoter of XOYO, and someone we had the privilege of working alongside on many occasions. His passion for music, events and Birmingham’s nightlife was clear in everything he did, and his presence was felt far beyond the events he helped bring to life.

More importantly, he was a genuinely kind, respected and much-loved person who will be greatly missed by all of us at XOYO and by so many across Birmingham’s music and nightlife community.

Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with his family, friends and everyone who knew and worked with him during this incredibly difficult time.

Rest in peace, Buxley. Thank you for everything. ❤️

Rest in peace to DJ Buxley, real name Ehi Oboite, the *34 year old DJ, entrepreneur and founder of Boxout UK and Boxout Fest, who sadly passed away after privately living with stage 4 cancer for four years.

Buxley built Boxout from small Birmingham parties of around 30 people into a major platform celebrating Black British, African and Caribbean music and culture.

Through Boxout, Boxout Fest and its community initiatives, he created spaces for people to connect while giving emerging DJs, artists and other Black creatives opportunities to be seen and heard.

In 2025, Boxout Fest welcomed more than 6,000 people, with Buxley continuing to push for greater representation of Black DJs and artists across the UK festival industry.

In a final message shared after his passing, Buxley revealed that he had been living with stage 4 cancer for four years while continuing to organise festivals, events and community spaces. He said he chose to keep his diagnosis private and continued focusing on bringing people together.

Sending love and condolences to his family, friends and the entire Boxout community. Rest in peace, @buxley__ 🕊️❤️ @boxout_uk @boxoutfest
