Volkswagen’s driven by devotion. The auto brand celebrates 50 years of the GTI with a new campaign that recognises the UK’s enduring love for the iconic hatchback. Created for Volkswagen GTI by adam&eveDDB the hero film is a timeline of the car from the 1970s right up to this year’s anniversary-special Golf GTI Edition 50. Directed by Billy Boyd Cape through Academy Films, the visual style evolves as time passes, being shot with the cameras and tech of each era. Starting with home-movie style footage, followed by the camcorder and disposable cameras of the ‘90s, the film ultimately moves into gaming and smartphone social content aesthetics. Along with a good revving up from Candi Staton's 80s hit You Got the Love, the spot is fuelled by GTI passion, from a little girl in 1976 excitedly watching her dad arrive home in their new Mk1 GTI, through to a devoted fans who've even had GTI tattoos. The last single from the album “WITHOUT YOU” is out now on all those bloody platforms. A song about heartbreak and loss that we filmed on the bleakest of February eves. Perfect for summer. I wrote this song in one day after some terrible news. Featuring Joseph Carvell on double bass and the unmistakable BV’s of @rowe_yaboat (check out her music too. It’s brilliant) I love this one. And I love everyone who helped me make it. Our directors came home with 10 Arrows from last week’s British Arrows 50th Anniversary Show; the 3rd ranking production company. We were incredibly grateful and proud to have Academy’s founder, Lizie Gower, and Adam&Eve founder, Ben Priest, serve as Jury Chairs for this landmark year. Finally, a huge salute to Simon Cooper (Global Managing Partner), who is signing off as Chair after three remarkable years of service! @britisharrows @scoopcooper66
