MACK JEHU – TWAS MEANT TO BE FREESTYLE 🎤🔥

Sometimes, you have to go back to the music that inspired you and pay homage to the artists who helped shape the culture.

I chose to freestyle over Swiss's Twas Meant to Be from his timeless album Pain and Music, to show respect to a UK music pioneer who made his mark with the legendary So Solid Crew before continuing his own musical journey with hits like Cry

For me, this freestyle is about more than rhyming over a classic beat. It's about expressing real experiences through lyricism, wordplay and storytelling.

From mental health, past trauma and fake friendships to faith, family, survival and overcoming life's obstacles, these bars reflect my journey and the importance of using music to heal rather than hurt.

"I'm here to heal, not to attack. It's real when you feel what I rap.

Music has always been my outlet to express what's on my mind. Big respect to Swiss for the original classic. This is my way of showing love to the music while adding my own voice and perspective.

🎤 MACK JEHU — THEN & NOW

Back in 2016, Mack Jehu - formerly known as Mack Jay - joined Boy Nash for a freestyle on Radar Radio, going over Nas Your Da Man instrumental.

This clip also features Mack Jay on Art of Rap Show, freestyling acapella. Some of those bars eventually became Mack Jay’s second verse on Whatever’s On My Mind featured on his Expressions of Opinions Vol. 1 project.

A piece of the journey from Mack Jay to Mack Jehu, showing how freestyle sessions and raw ideas became part of the music that followed. 🎤🔥

🎥 MACK JEHU - SURVIVAL WARFARE ft. THE LEGEND SKINNYMAN & KIARA CASSANDRA | 2019

Formerly known as Mack Jay, Mack Jehu’s Survival Warfare is a powerful 2019 UK Hip-Hop collaboration with the legendary Skinnyman and vocalist Kiara Cassandra.

The song and music video shine a light on the realities of survival - from police brutality and the victims of Grenfell to slavery in Libya, single mothers, and the struggles faced by young Black men and women growing up in disadvantaged communities.

Mack Jehu delivers his perspective through raw, socially conscious bars, addressing the realities surrounding him while encouraging resilience and awareness.

Skinnyman brings his trademark uncompromising lyricism and social commentary, complementing Mack’s message and making the collaboration a meeting of two powerful UK Hip-Hop voices.

Kiara Cassandra adds an emotional and melodic dimension, helping bring balance to the hard-hitting subject matter.

Survival Warfare is ultimately about standing strong through adversity, speaking up about injustice and finding the strength to survive despite the circumstances.

🔥 BOY NASH — FIRE IN THE BOOTH

Boy Nash stepped into Charlie Sloth’s Fire in the Booth and delivered a powerful one-take performance, switching cadence and delivery across two beats. His writing journey began at 14, and the session showed why he’s respected as a versatile lyricist.

But Nash’s story goes deeper than bars. With Ghanaian heritage and roots connecting London and Accra, his music carries identity, culture and lived experience. His Mitcham upbringing is part of that foundation — shaping an artist who uses rap not just to impress, but to inspire, motivate and push people towards their goals.

His lyrics balance confidence, reflection and ambition. There’s a clear message: know where you come from, believe in what you can become, and use your voice to create something bigger than yourself.

That Fire in the Booth performance remains a snapshot of an artist determined to leave his mark — Ghanaian heritage, South London roots and a pen built for longevity. 🔥🇬🇭🇬🇧

Mack Jehu feat. Smooflow — They Don’t Like Me : A Track Breakdown

Mack Jehu teams up with Smooflow on They Don’t Like Me,” the opening track from Jehu’s 2025 album They Didn’t Like Me. The album features 12 tracks and runs for around 38 minutes, with the record moving through themes of personal experience, struggle, reflection, spirituality and resilience.

The Lyrics

They Don’t Like Me carries the feeling of being judged, misunderstood or rejected while refusing to let outside opinions define your identity. The lyrics can be read as a statement of independence: when people decide they don't like you, the response is not necessarily to change yourself, but to keep moving forward and stay true to your own path.

Mack Jehu and Smooflow bring contrasting voices to the track, giving the song a conversational, back-and-forth energy. Rather than simply focusing on negativity, the track turns rejection into motivation and self-belief.

The Video

The official music video adds a visual dimension to that message, giving the track a stronger sense of personality and attitude. It works alongside the lyrics as a visual statement about individuality, opposition and continuing to move despite what others think.

As the album's opening track, They Don’t Like Me also sets the tone for They Didn’t Like Me, introducing listeners to a project built around real-life observations and personal reflection. The album was released on October 14, 2025.
