Researching and writing about trails has to be one of my favourite parts of what I do 📚 You wouldn’t believe how long I spent researching the Irish Pilgrim Paths piece 🌳

This really was a great two days. Thanks to @boynevalley_trails, @lovedrogheda, @visitlouthie and @dusty_flanagan for a really wonderful time! 🥾

I can’t believe how many responses I got! Truly cannot wait to use my nerdy research skills from a past life and see what we’re all up to 🤓 results probably end of November or beginning of December!

Hot air balloons feel like they should only exist in books - the way they silently glide through the sky feels so peaceful and magic ✨

I’m sure it surprises no one to hear that I’m quite happy to wander the hills by myself. After a long summer with a bad hip, getting moving again, slowly but surely, has been a great relief ⛰️

I’ve seen so many mushrooms this year! And such strong colours! However I know nothing about them, so I just admire from afar 🍄

This was such a great few days! Left with more ideas and projects stewing away. I’m sure I’ll be back to Wales soon ♥️

Ireland’s Camino Connection 🇪🇸

The Celtic Camino is a connection that dates back to the 12th Century. Recently the Spanish government gifted the city of Drogheda this beautiful Moutiera to help symbolise this connection.

Located just outside Scotch Hall on the banks of the Boyne. Why not visit this piece of cultural history?

Jimmy took a trip up a few days ago to hand-pick the best of the catch for Matt the Thresher because great dishes always start with great local ingredients.

Happy Birthday to the Taín Way .40 years old 🥳 and one of the first long distance trails in Ireland . It was time to get 40 Hardy Bucks to walk its 40km traverse of the beautiful Cooley Peninsula over 2 days . Forty-eight people, one legendary hill, and an afternoon exploring the myths and legends of Tara! 💚

A heartfelt thank-you to everyone who joined me today as part of the Boyne Valley Trails September Walking Festival. It was a pleasure to share the stories of this extraordinary place with you.

There is something very special about telling these old stories in the landscape to which they belong – standing on Tara, with its ancient monuments around us and the countryside stretching away into the distance.

Many thanks to Boyne Valley Trails and Love Drogheda for organising the event, and to the Office of Public Works (OPW) for granting permission for our walk and for their continued care of this remarkable heritage site.

Most of all, thank you to everyone who came along and helped make the afternoon such a success. Sharing Ireland’s myths and monuments with people is at the heart of what I do, and days like today mean a great deal to me.

🥾💙💛 A little piece of Galicia has arrived in Drogheda!

As someone who has walked the Boyne Valley Camino 11 times and is slowly making my way along the Camino Francés, this morning was particularly special.

🇪🇸 We were joined by dignitaries from Galicia to unveil a traditional Mouteira beside the Boyne at Scotch Hall, marking the distance from Drogheda to Santiago de Compostela. 🐚

📍 And what a location. Centuries ago, pilgrims left from this very part of Drogheda by sea for A Coruña, before continuing on foot to Santiago.

The Mouteira was gifted by the Government of Galicia in recognition of the work to reconnect Drogheda and Galicia through the Celtic Camino. 🇮🇪🤝🇪🇸

A beautiful and lasting symbol of our shared pilgrimage, heritage and friendship, and another wonderful chapter in Drogheda’s Camino story. 💙

"It takes a community to raise a Camino".

Drogheda has more to celebrate today as we welcomed visitors from Galicia in Spain, as well as the Deputy Spanish Ambassador to Ireland to unveil a Camino Mouteira-a waymarker stone found along the route of the Camino de Santiago, on the waterfront at Scotch Hall. This special gift from the Spanish government to Drogheda points in the direction of Galicia, following an ancient route of pilgrimage and trade that has linked the two areas for centuries.

The Boyne Valley Camino starts in Drogheda and is a 25km loop walk that, when combined with a further 75km in Spain, makes up the Celtic Camino. This Mouteira is decorated with the traditional Camino scallop shell and iconic arrows and will point Camino walkers to Galica, where they can continue their journey.

Congratulations to all the members of the @BoyneValleyCamino @Boyne Valley Walking @boynevalley_trails who worked so hard to bring the Boyne Valley Camino to life for Drogheda.
