Sometimes you visit a place expecting to document a story, and you leave having learned something yourself.

Our visit to the TBC Repair site was one of those experiences.

We had the opportunity to meet some of the members who attended a class and hear about their experiences directly. The conversations gave us a glimpse into what happens beyond the classroom — the questions, the learning, the challenges and the possibilities that come with gaining a new skill.

It reminded us that meaningful work doesn't always have to start with something big.

Sometimes it starts with a class.

Sometimes it starts with someone being willing to learn.

And sometimes it starts with simply giving people access to an opportunity.

We're grateful that we could spend some time listening, learning and documenting.

Cape Town artist Boytchie works across painting, drawing and sculpture, with drawing forming the starting point for an experimental practice shaped by Neo-Expressionism, Romanticism, Impressionism and anime. Bold marks, saturated colour and imagery that shifts between the tragic and the comic allow him to confront contemporary hustle culture, greed, power and our increasing familiarity with violence.

In 4 SKULLS, Boytchie returns to a motif that has appeared repeatedly in his recent work, including Untitled (Skull), Untitled (Skull with Grillz) and 2 Skulls in the Dirt. Here, oil, enamel and bitumen meet on wood, continuing his instinct for combining conventional painting with tougher, less polished materials. The title leaves little room for distraction: four skulls, a recurring image within a practice that asks us to look directly at death, violence and the uneasy point where discomfort can become familiar.

During Berlin Art Week, I always have the great pleasure of curating my own space and creating an environment where I can welcome my collectors, friends and family and share the artists I believe in.

Because for me, collecting is not only about buying art. It is about living with art, developing your eye and building a collection that reflects your taste.

Meet @boytchie_ , the Cape Town-born contemporary artist turning painting, drawing and sculpture into bold commentary on power, money, masculinity and modern life.

A Stellenbosch Fine Art Honours graduate, Boytchie has exhibited from Cape Town to New York, including @thearmoryshow 2025.

Now, his latest chapter, Righteous Orders, expands his ongoing KA$H OUT series, confronting the systems of power, greed and exploitation shaping society today.

With new work already emerging from the studio, Boytchie is one South African artist to keep on your radar.
