My nieces and nephews are Black, they're younger, and a lot of them are neurodivergent. I'm trying to share resources, but if I'm only sharing resources from people who look like me, it's a hell of a lot harder to relate to. Harder to say, oh, maybe that could be my kid too.

They need more people who look like them talking about these experiences.

Mask after mask after mask, and by the end of the day you're just worn out.

Not "tired." Worn. out.

There's a reason so many of us end up in burnout, walls crumbling, plates crashing down. Swipe through, this one's a lot.

Bre talks about what it's like to be Black, neurodivergent, and actually taken seriously.

Patrick pointed out how rare that is. Not many younger Black kids get diagnosed with ADHD or Autism early in life, and even fewer get diagnosed appropriately and accurately. He also doesn't know many rappers or hip hop artists speaking publicly about being AuDHD or living that life.

Bre broke down why that gap exists. In the Black community, when something's "wrong" with you, it gets treated like a hindrance instead of a difference. You're too sensitive, too loud, too aggressive, too nonchalant. Her question was simple, what am I supposed to be here.

This is why Bre says the response should be checking in and asking what's going on, not handing out another label.

Bre talks about how recording as an engineer turns you into a therapist too.

You sit down and listen to everybody's issues, everything weighing on them all day. You're not there to coach them or push them in a direction, you're there to help them see they've already got it, they're well off, they just need a little guidance here and there.

Bre gave an example. While going over the theories with someone, they asked him how he knew all this stuff. That's when he realized it was his hyperfocus, he'd spent years hyperfocused on figuring people out. But that same hyperfocus comes at a cost.

Learning the masks and the code switching means learning a whole set of processes just to get through the day, and carrying all of that is heavy on the brain.

This is why Bre says it disconnects you from who you truly are. Patrick called that separation from self really fucking painful, and pointed to it as where a lot of autistic burnout comes from, that moment of wondering how you got there and how you get out.

What if the answer to "was it all worth it" has a masked version and an honest one, and the honest one hurts a little more?

On this week's episode of The Neurodivergent Entrepreneur, I sit down with Bre, professionally known as BR3, a 36-year-old Black music producer, engineer, and tech founder from Macon, Georgia.

He's a Georgia Tech grad who's charted on iTunes and Apple Music, and his empire is built on a deeply personal foundation, his Autistic son, Bop. Everything from Bop's Playland TV to Bop First Games is designed to create heroes who look like his son and give neurodivergent kids sensory-friendly experiences.

Together we cover a lot of ground:

⚡ Why the honest answer to "was it all worth it" is that it has not been easy at all
⚡ How he got diagnosed ADHD as a kid, and how getting his son tested for Autism led him to get diagnosed himself around 35
⚡ Why he hates the word disorder, and what happened when someone tried to use it on him
⚡ The layers of masking he stacks every day, mask one, two, three, until he's too tired to eat or sleep
⚡ Why he told me my video about Autistic burnout is the reason Bop's Playland actually got finished
⚡ Our totally unplanned deep dive into Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones

The music industry runs on deadlines, stages, and constant sensory noise.

Underneath it, artists are quietly falling apart. Depression. Anxiety. Thoughts about suicide that don't get talked about until someone finally asks the question out loud.

Br3 has had other artists in the industry come to him lately, asking how he found out, where to even start looking. That's not a coincidence. That's a disparity that's been ignored for way too long.
