I finished the race in disbelief that I ran faster in the heat than two weeks ago in the “cooler” temps. I went in with no expectations and ran based off effort. Honestly, I was just looking forward to the 🍕 and the fact that I had a cool, new shirt to wear.

When finishing I actually said “that was fun,” which is hilarious for someone who’s afraid of 5ks 🤣. I immediately sent an audio message to my friends and coach because I couldn’t believe it! The training is working and it’s only the beginning!

When Brad told me I placed first in my age group I almost cried tears of joy, I’m so very proud of myself especially when a couple weeks ago I was doubting everything about my running career 🎢

Next up, the NJ sprint triathlon THIS Sunday!!! 🏊🏻‍♀️ 🚴🏼‍♀️🏃🏼‍♀️

Trigger warning: Vulnerability post coming for ya!

I gave up running in 2021, I didn’t love it anymore and I thought I’d never run another marathon again. Then 2022 came and I met my friend Joe for a group run with the Henry Hudson Trail Runners. It was life changing. This group of welcoming, optimistic and dream driven people saved my life.

You might say, here it is, Jess being dramatic again, but I’m serious. That was one of the hardest years I faced, mentally. There were days that I had suicidal thoughts racing through my head. Unfortunately, it wasn’t something uncommon because I dealt with self harm up until college. Back then I had my horse who truly saved me. Fortunately for me, I found my love for running again because of the HHTR fam and they (as well as my family, co workers and friends) saved me again.

These individuals truly had no idea how much I needed them. Because of them, I kept showing up. I became a better person because of them. They taught me how to be a better and faster runner. They never gave up on me, they showed me that I belonged here.

Which is why today, when I was asked to sign up for the @nyrr Team Championship 5M, as much as I wanted to say no and sleep in, I showed up for my team just like they showed up for me and continue to show up for me every day. I felt myself drifting a bit but remembered why I run and picked up the speed so I could make our team proud. (A woman came up to me later to thank me for keeping her motivated 🥹).

Today was fun, today I showed up for our team but also for myself. Continue to show up, the world is a better place with you in it 🫶🏼
