Part 2 & Horizontals

Back in April I photographed Donna Blair and Tamara Carlisle of @commercegallery for @texasmonthly during my short visit to Lockhart, TX.

Leading up to shooting them, I photographed Birdie House (which I will also share soon) and within that BnB there is a painting by a local painter that struck me. (I still think about that painting all of the time.) When I finally met Donna and Tam for our shoot I mentioned this painting, since we’re shooting in a gallery, and they said “Oh, yes it sounds like you’re talking about Christopher St. Leger, he’s a local, and he’s our artist in residence here at Commerce Gallery. In fact, we just saw him around the corner here having coffee. Want to say Hi?” Sure enough, there he was, around the corner. We said “Hi” and after that short introduction filled with gratitude and admiration, we walked over to ANOTHER gallery, tucked away upstairs above a pizza place, an addition to Commerce Gallery, appropriately named Art Loft. Here, surrounded by Bradley Narduzzi’s mesmerizing Totems and Paul Ferney’s gorgeous pool scenes we rounded out our portrait session.

Donna and Tam have been the beautiful catalyst that Lockhart always needed to become the vibrant and welcoming town that it has become. By transforming the downtown area and helping people find their homes it was inevitable that this town was meant for these two endlessly inspiring women. Donna and Tam are the kinds of people that show up for their community and give endlessly. I’m grateful to have gotten to know them even a little, and i’m glad I can share their faces and their gallery with you all.

Part 1 & Verticals

Back in April I photographed Donna Blair and Tamara Carlisle of @commercegallery for @texasmonthly during my short visit to Lockhart, TX.

I got my start making pictures for magazines right outta college shooting CEO’s and Entrepreneurs for magazines like Fast Company and Inc. which fortunately, I still get to shoot for today… but photographing these entrepreneurs after all this time, felt a little different for me, because they exuded a different feeling, a true sense of community.

As I moved through Lockhart from spot to spot I chatted up locals, and business owners, and everyone seemed to know these two amazing women. Everyone had something positive to say, “The Mayors of Lockhart” I think someone might have described them as...

Last night at The Art Loft by Commerce Gallery.

What’s Up Social Club hosted an unreasonably French evening in our art loft, with incredible food, drinks, and a beautiful setting for dinner surrounded by art.

Cuisine by Nathan Lemley, beverages by Robert Bjorn Taylor, in collaboration with Joanne Irizarry, two sold out seatings, memories made, and one of those special Lockhart nights.

Thank you for the 📸 @thedigitalbird

I’m a little late in posting, but I have to say it’s been a whirlwind experience this last week at @affordableartfairtexas

First of all thank you to all of the artists who really came through with some absolutely fantastic pieces that were definite showstoppers. This is our third year doing this fair and we’ve certainly learned a lot over the years. The layout of the booth was quite nice, and I was extremely proud of the art we were showing. I’m still always learning. For example, each day I rehung the space based on what I heard the day before, but also to anticipate and see how things are viewed. I found just like in the Gallery, there are walls that just seem to sell well, and that was also confirmed at the fair. Another big surprise was we had several pieces of art that did not arrive in time for the fair (still held up in a FedEx warehouse somewhere) but now I feel we’ve done this just long enough to learn to roll with the punches. We had so much wonderful artwork that honestly I didn’t feel too worried about it. Just like in life, you plan everything out, and there’s always something that comes up to change it. I’m just now hitting the point where I can relax a little and enjoy the ride.

They’ll be more posts to come, but I wanted to say thank you. To my family, to the artists, and to Cori and the Affordable Art Fair team, and to the guests and collectors who support us along the way. Also to Diane, who kept the doors open and a warm welcome at the Gallery back home.

We couldn’t do it without you.
Until next time, cheers!
