On July 3 and 4, thousands gathered at Discovery Park of America to commemorate our nation’s history, honor those who helped shape it and celebrate 250 years of American independence.

This video captures moments from our America 250 Celebration of Independence and features powerful perspectives from living historian Jim Cacy and Col. James C. Harding, America’s most-decorated living veteran.

As our nation marks this historic milestone, we invite you to look back, reflect on the stories that shaped our country and celebrate the people who continue to carry those stories forward.

Watch and share as we commemorate 250 years of American history.

Back when I was 14 going on 15, my parents came up with the brilliant idea of moving from the suburbs of Detroit down to a small town in northwest TN, with their adopted troubled teen and a 12 letter Polish last name. Needless to say my social calendar filled quite quickly with all sorts of fun events like being handcuffed to the back of a moving pickup truck, getting cornered by almost the entire football team, and countless other moments I've long since blocked from my memory. The town bullies had a fresh new target that remained in their sights until I was old enough to move away. This is a song about my love/hate relationship with that time of my life. Oh, and it will be available on all the music streaming platforms in the coming week.

Dear President Shannon,

You have touched all of our lives in one way or another. Your care, love, and support for the university are evident in your interactions and actions. You light up every room with your smile (and sometimes your mustache). You have left an impression on every alumni and student. I can’t speak for everyone, but personally, I see all the great things you have done for the Freed-Hardeman family, and they will never go unnoticed.

We thank you, we will miss you, and we will never forget you.

Sincerely yours,
The Freed-Hardeman Family

P.S. We’ll be keeping your cardboard cutout for whenever we miss taking selfies with you.
