Brandon Geurts was born in Dayton, Ohio, and currently resides in Washington, D.C. He received his BFA from the University of Central Florida in 2013 and his MFA from the University of South Florida in 2017. Since beginning his ongoing live-drawing project, Geurts has completed more than 500 drawings from concerts, primarily in the Washington, D.C. and Baltimore area. His practice is grounded in observational drawing and an ongoing engagement with the communities and spaces surrounding live music.

For the past eight years, Geurts has drawn live bands directly from observation, focusing primarily on extreme metal and punk performances. Originally conceived as figure-drawing practice, the project has evolved into a living visual record of the heavy music scenes in Washington, D.C. and Baltimore. Working throughout the duration of a performance, Geurts responds to the continuous movement of musicians rather than isolating a single instant, creating an alternative to the conventions of concert photography. The resulting drawings capture the energy, physicality, and impermanence of live performance while documenting a specific cultural community over time. In recent years, the project has expanded beyond individual concerts to include festivals such as Dark Days, Bright Nights in Richmond, Punks for Palestine in Washington, D.C., and Maryland Deathfest in Baltimore. Together, these works function both as observational studies and as an evolving archive of a vibrant regional music scene.

We are proud to announce EPHEMERA(L), the gallery’s inaugural exhibition, opening September 18, 2026, in Baltimore at our new location at 5722 Falls Rd. Bringing together twelve artists from Baltimore and the surrounding region, the exhibition considers what remains after a moment has passed, and how ordinary objects, fleeting experiences, and material traces become carriers of memory, meaning, and value.

The title draws together ephemeral, that which exists only briefly, and ephemera, objects or documents considered temporary or disposable, yet often retained as evidence of a life or moment. Between the two lies a fundamental human impulse: the desire to give permanence to what cannot last. Fleeting experiences, gestures, fragments, and notes become carriers of meaning and value, giving form to moments that have passed. The artists consider how these traces accumulate meaning, challenging distinctions between the permanent and the impermanent, and between the significant and the ordinary.

In bringing together works that embrace process, residue, and the quotidian, EPHEMERA(L) invites viewers to reflect on the beauty of impermanence and the enduring power of everyday traces. What is momentary is never entirely lost; it persists in memory, material, and the stories we continue to tell.

Please join us for the opening reception at 7 pm on Friday, September 18. We can’t wait to open our doors to you all and begin this journey together!

PREORDERS start today for @_nomad.war.machine and @susanalcornpsg’s Contra Madre LP. This is one of the final recordings Susan made before her crushing passing last year, but the album also marks the recorded debut of @zooolius and @james.reichard.music’s improvised metal duo. Rise and fall, surge and ebb. It’s all there in this amazing collaboration. The album is out 1/30/26, the eve of the anniversary of Susan’s death. Get yours at the link in the bio.
