I’m so proud to announce my new Grahame Lesh & Friends album Vol. 2 - Juno, coming on 12/4 to Bandcamp, vinyl & CD. Juno is part of a continuum that began with 2024’s Vol. 1 – Let The Mountain Be My Home and continues my exploration of unfinished musical ideas and overlooked songs connected to my family’s musical history and the broader Grateful Dead community.

The title references NASA’s Juno spacecraft, the 2nd spacecraft to orbit Jupiter, as this is the second time I have recorded the song “Jupiter,” which I wrote to unused Robert Hunter lyrics years ago. I first recorded “Jupiter” with Midnight North for our album Diamonds in the Zodiac with my dad Phil Lesh on bass, and now this new voyage kicks off Side A of Juno.

The title track for Let The Mountain Be My Home is “The Mountain Song”, a beautiful song whose writing began in 1971 by David Crosby & Jerry Garcia during the PERRO sessions and was only completed by my brother Brian & my dad Phil in 2010 for Furthur. On Juno we again connect to the PERRO sessions with GLAF keyboardist Damian Calcagne’s song “Mountain’s Other Side”, written by taking inspiration from another unused PERRO jam by Jorma Kaukonen. “Mountain’s Other Side” closes out Side A. It features me on bass with Damian singing a beautiful lead vocal, plus it features Jennifer Hartswick on trumpet!

Side B again connects to my dad’s great friend David Crosby, with our take on his composition “The Wall Song”. The original “The Wall Song” was featured on 1972’s Graham Nash David Crosby album, and features my dad along with Jerry Garcia and Bill Kreutzmann backing up David & Graham. I’m so honored to have the legendary Graham Nash contribute vocals to our version, further linking our project to the tremendous work that he and his compatriots did all those years ago.

(Cont in comments, but interjecting to say that @samwatson.co designed the artwork, and all the photos from the sessions at @thepineboxstudio are by me)

@motherhips tearing it up @bellyuptavern 🔥❤️🔥 My favorite part of knowing a band for 25+ years is all the friends we have made along the way. Got to see so many beautiful faces last night✨🤘🕺🎵

Sunday morning tunes. Single Spoon by the mighty @motherhips. Nothing quite like a Kazoo solo to tie the verses together.
