Happy 18th birthday to my son @braydenbelden
Wow where do I start? I’ll start by saying getting to say happy 18th birthday to you is it’s own miracle. Over these years it’s been super hard to accept the tragedy that happened to you. Our lives took a different direction. When they gave you an hour to live all I thought is can I please switch lives with my son and let him live. You cheated death and have come so so far.

Looking at some of these photos reminds me of where you were, where you went with your injury and how you fought your way to today. It’s been a rough ride and we as a family have learned so much and are stronger for it. Brayden you are an inspiration to so many people. Yes you are nowhere near perfect and have made mistakes along the way, but who hasn’t? You have a good heart, wish the best for People and are genuinely a nice human being. Never lose sight of what you know is really important- your family, friends & community. I want to use this post to thank everyone who has supported Brayden over these years. It means so much to us and the Belden family has gratitude to all of you who continue have Brayden’s back.

Enjoy your day Brayden, you are officially a young man!

17-year-old Brayden Belden’s journey from suffering a traumatic brain injury six years ago, to being selected as Athlete of the Year for the 57th Patriots Day Parade, is nothing short of miraculous. Read this week’s Laguna Life & People feature story by Dianne Russell at stunewslaguna.com.

Monday motivation & inspiration . In 2016 @asher_pacey and I went down to Baja šŸ‡²šŸ‡½ filming for snapt3 . We ended up scoring a right point offshore , pretty damn good and empty . The only other gringos there were a comical & classic dad @mattbelden and his super talented ripper son @braydenbelden . I filmed ( yes I used to sit on the beach and actually film šŸ˜‚ ) Asher and Brayden traded off waves all day . Matt sat next to me and we hit it off immediately with tons of laughs & many mutual friends . the guy is just a character. There’s no better bonding experience then scoring empty good waves with strangers who in one swell become life long friends . A few weeks after that Baja trip Matt , Brayden and there family went on a snowboard trip that would end up changing there lives . Heading down the mountain full speed Brayden ended up hitting a tree full on . Was Rushed to the hospital it seemed fatal . First they said he would not pull through but he did , then they questioned if he would have any physical movement ever again and doubted his chances of brain function . Everyone that saw his condition didn’t think the odds were good of a recovery except his dad and family . They went through hell and back and did everything in there power to help Brayden . They went out of the country on repeat to get painful stem cell treatments and other very harsh physical therapy . Basically anything and everything to beat the odds . This kid and his family endured hell including the grom getting bullied at school but it only made him stronger . Fast forward to 2023 I’m walking into the @thepalmspringssurfclub and see this kid do a mental layback ( the one above ) I asked who was that and they said that’s Brayden . I honestly teared up because I never thought I would see him surf at the level I watched him pre the snowboarding accident . Right now I feel so much negativity & lack of compassion in surfing figured it’s a good time to tell a story like this . who doesn’t love a comeback ? a grom that was told he would never surf again and he worked his but off and proved the doctors and doubters wrong . Way to go Braydo . Your a absolute HERO and a inspiration to never give up
