Bread and Cookies

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Food dump. I’ve stopped caring about plating nicely. Just enjoy the moment with family and friends. I hope I’m teaching our son Jack, how cooking can be one of life’s greatest skills. I’ve been taking him to @greensborofarmerscurbmarket every Saturday I’m home for three years and as much as I can to @sunsetmarketgardens . It’s one of my favorite things we do. Eat good food. Shop your local farms. Support people really doing the work.

I had such a great time yesterday at the inaugural @westcoastbreadfest ~ learning, sampling, & connecting with fellow bakers. A huge thank you to Laila (@theearlyrisebaker ) for having the vision and making the necessary connections to bring the event to life! Thanks to @keithgiustobakerysupply and @centralmilling for hosting. Thanks @brodandtaylor + @simplybreadco + @wiremonkeyshop for sponsoring. Thanks @redwhalecoffee for coffee and @fireswampprovisions for the delish baked goods.
It was rad to meet and learn from Azikiwee of Rize Up about inclusions in sourdough loaves.
I crossed paths and chatted with the inventor, engineer, owner of @simplybreadco, Stijn. My oven is number 84!

I've thought a lot recently about the magical alchemy that bakers work, combining elements of grain, salt, water, time, shelter, nurture, and heat to make foundational, functional food that acts as both vehicle and bridge - something to build a meal upon, while also being common ground that spans superficial differences.

Yesterday I thought of we bakers and bread aficionados as the building blocks, the West Coast Bread Fest as the vessel, and Laila, the panelists and teachers as forces manipulating, guiding, and massaging it all together, encouraging attendees to connect and build community.

The most important things I took from yesterday weren't necessarily the lessons learned in the demo kitchens, but in those new friendships forged and hearing the 'whys' that each baker - from novice, to cottage, to renowned brick and mortar owner - holds dear as their north star, their guiding light. To build community. To nourish neighbors. To support sustainable agricultural practices and our small farmers. Every 'why' unique and meaningful.

The experience rekindled and stoked my desire to bake more really good bread, to serve my community, and to continue on this zig-zagging, loop-the-loop blessing of a life.

Love always,
breadward

@breadservice for the win this morning at @cornermarketgso - twice baked potato focaccia & sourdough. Totally worth the drive from WS to GSO on a Saturday morning.

One of the things we love most about our bakers at The Corner Farmers Market is how willing they are to go the extra mile for their customers. 💛 Many of our vendors happily accept special orders, and we’ve seen firsthand just how thoughtful and generous they are.
From a slice of coffee cake that turns into a full brunch-worthy cake from The Bagel Guy, to perfectly sized quiches from Breakfast in Paris (and even a full-sized Coltrane Farms tomato pie quiche for a family cabin trip), our bakers truly deliver. Wendy’s cupcakes are always a family favorite — and she’s even created full-sized Dessert du Jour cakes for birthday celebrations. Breadservice loaves? Bring a couple to a neighborhood chili cook-off and prepare to be everyone’s favorite guest. And Aamal’s Fruitickler Five Pound Apple Pie (or a big coconut layer cake) has become a Thanksgiving staple for many of us.
We honestly can’t begin to list all the special orders, holds, favors, and even catering services our vendors provide. If you’re planning a gathering, celebration, or just want something special — just ask. Our bakers are always happy to help make it delicious.

It’s been quite a while since the fine folks over at @breadservice made an order of shirts… if you have gotten one yet, they will be selling them at @cornermarketgso every Saturday morning! Buy them all up, ya hear?!?!?
