Today is my last official day with City Councilmember Kiaʻainaʻs office before I start my new role at the U.S. Dept of Housing & Urban Development tomorrow!

It has been a successful, fulfilling, fun, and wild 3 years supporting Esther, one of my closest friends and mentors, zealously advocate for the constituents of district 3, the most vulnerable members of the City, Native Hawaiians, other Pacific Islanders, etc

From when I started, our office has helped ensure better gender equity on county commissions, stand up of the Oahu Historic Preservation Commission 30 years after it was established by law, increase real property exemptions and tax credits, support affordable housing funding and projects including projects in Kailua, prohibit commercial activities at waimanalo beach parks, raise awareness of Hawaiian and other pacific islander issues and perspectives, improve regulations of short term rentals to limit them to resort and resort adjacent zoning districts, improve oversight over the Liquor Commission, and moved along an effort for the City to meaningfully support the DHHL (more soon). Phew……

Mahalo to my amazing friends and staff for their support and makana, including @inmyhumbleopinion who won the best lei award, @kauinburgess for herding all the cats (aka our hoa) and blowing up the amazing posters, @skini_wong for his word smithing, @breanny for agreeing to kokua after I'm gone, to my ʻohana for sharing these special moments, to my colleagues for our collaboration and partnerships and all amazing lei, gifts and kind words, to the City Council for their commitment to the people and for honoring me and letting us take over the honorary certificate ceremony with our madness.

And finally mahalo to Esther, one of the most brilliant, crazy, tough as nails, get er done, power to the people chicks I know. She has played an incredible role in my career, from dragging me kicking and screaming to OHA and then drafting me to support her at the City Council. Love you to the moon and back!! Mahalo for the recognition of my work over the years, our staff lunch, our coffeehouse, margaritas at the club, and our paina.
