Next up: Junior Worlds 2026 in Sun City, South Africa!

#nutrition #powerlifting #recap

The weeks leading into Junior Worlds weren’t the easiest for Zohra. A difficult period resulted in a noticeable drop in both bodyweight and gym performance. Once things settled, Zohra quickly worked her way back towards 70 kg, which is a bodyweight we knew would put the -69 kg class comfortably within reach with a gut cut.

Our biggest uncertainty was the almost 24-hour travel day and the potential fluid retention that could come with it. We prepared for it as well as we could, and surprisingly Zohra came out of the travel day relatively light. This allowed us to adapt on the spot, ease off the original plan and simply stabilize bodyweight over the final three days.

On competition day, Zohra woke up at 69.1 kg and could head to weigh-in without any stress, eventually weighing in at exactly 69.00 kg for the second time. After an uncertain build-up with back issues, she put together a strong performance to finish 5th at the Junior World Championships, narrowly missing out on a squat medal. More importantly from our side, she felt strong, energized and properly fueled throughout the day.

Next up: Junior Europeans in Slovenia. For now, I’m deliberately giving Zohra a little more freedom after Worlds before settling bodyweight again and working towards the next meet with the same controlled approach.

On to the next 🤝

After a strong performance at Junior Nationals, Luna got some well-earned freedom before getting back on plan for Junior Worlds. The approach was straightforward: repeat what had worked so well for Nationals.

Just like for Nationals, we aimed to bring bodyweight down to around 77.5 kg through a controlled calorie deficit, before using a gut and water cut to make the -76 kg class. With the stakes considerably higher and winning being the absolute goal, we wanted a strategy we already knew Luna responded well to. The deficit went extremely smoothly. With roughly a 300 kcal daily deficit, a 12000 step goal and the surrounding factors kept consistent, Luna continued to feel good throughout and reached our target right before Worlds.

Once again, the biggest uncert

This past Saturday @brechtleenders333 competed at his second World Championships in Sun City, South Africa!

Brecht finished the day with a 290kg squat, a 190kg bench (+7.5kg) and a 🥉340kg deadlift (+15kg) for a 820kg total (+27.5kg).

Genuinely couldn’t be more happy of this day and be proud of the hard worker Brecht is. We took nats on the chin and we both felt like absolute shit afterwards, but here we made up for it and we figured a few things out.
The important thing for Brecht is to stay calm and to not elevate his heart rate any more than the internal stress already gives him. He barely had on his headphones on, we talked some shit and he locked in when it was his turn.

Squat went very well in training and confidence was in a pretty good spot.
On the day we opened up at 275kg. During warm ups it was already clear that he was in way better shape than at nats. The opener moved well but the oscillation of the bar caused him to not feel as confident under the bar as usual. We went up to 290kg and we got it but the shakiness killed his speed so went up a conservative 5kg. 295kg moved way better but depth was cut slightly and we received three reds. In training we’ll focus on squatting with the comp collars more often as that heavily influences the oscillation he experiences.

Shortly after nats Brecht put up 195kg in training and we were looking at some massive PR’s. However some shoulder aches held us back somewhat the last few blocks going into this meet. It was managed properly and kept feeling better the closer we got to the meet. On the day after a giga taper (no accessories for a week OMG, the SBL crowd will hate this one).
We quickly noticed that warm ups were looking SUPERB and the opener of 172,5kg flew so we went to the planned 2A of 185kg. It moved well but I knew 190kg would be the magic number on this day and he crushed it. The strongest he’s shown up at a meet on bench and especially after the training we had, this was a treat.

Deadlift has been our achilles heel the past three meets after not being able to finish our third attempt. Deadlift was very strong in training and he was able to hit some huge sets of move certain weight very nicely.
D

YEAR ONE

The truth is, DRIVN isn’t what it is because of one person. It’s what it is because of the people behind it. Every athlete who trusted us, every person who has shown support, every recommendation, every conversation, and every milestone we’ve shared together has shaped what DRIVN has become.

Thanks to our awesome team for believing in the vision and for allowing us to be part of your journey. We’re only getting started, and we’re excited to see what year two has in store.

🇳🇱DUTCH JR NATIONALS🇳🇱

Jamie and I started working together at the start of 2026, so about 4 months now. It’s been so much fun!

Squat: +5kg comp PR
•147,5✅ 155❌ 155✅
Warm-ups and the opener were looking super speedy and strong. The second attempt was also fast but we received 2 reds for depth. Jamie turned that around and hit that undeniably on the third attempt!

Bench: +5kg comp PR
•72,5✅ 77,5✅ 80❌
Bench looked super strong both in training and comp. She opened with 72,5 matching her comp PR! We recently upped the bench frequency from 4 to 5 times, safe to say it’s doing wonders.

Deadlift: +10kg comp PR
•152,5✅ 162,5✅ 170✅
A few weeks out Jamie proposed to change the stance from sumo to conventional, because the sumo was rather inconsistent. This was an amazing change, pulling a 10kg comp and all-time PR AND breaking the curse of missing that final deadlift!
Giving us a beautiful 400+ total and 85GL.

@brechtleenders333 competed at the national junior championships!

This was genuinely one of those days where the day doesn’t get close to reflecting the progress and how strong the lifter has become.

Prep went well overall, nothing out of the ordinary, maybe except for bench as that went absurdly well and he was looking good to put up a huge PR. Brecht has never been more on point with his nutrition since working with @neytje.the.powerlifter and that was reflected on the weigh in!

On his lwu for squat Brecht mentioned that he felt like he wasn’t putting the bar in the right spot on his back and it was rolling up. The same thing happened on his opener and he also felt more shaky, causing him to squat higher than he usually would. As the opener was called on depth, we still decided to increase for the second as we were in a battle for first. The second was better and moved okay, still shaky and not as steady in terms of bar positioning as usual. We then opted for a, what we felt like was a safe increase of 7.5kg but unfortunately missed that one due to aggressive bar roll.

As mentioned before, bench was going extremely well in training. I feel like our game was just exposed a bit on the day, longer holds than we were used to and that’s something we’re already working on!
We still ended up with a 2.5kg comp PR on the second attempts as he just narrowly missed his third. His back also cramped up badly on the last one which kind of bit us in the ass on pulls.

Pulls were looking damn strong in warm ups, but on the opener he felt like the cramp affected him as he felt like one erector was very uncomfortable. It didn’t move horribly but we for sure hoped for it to be better. We opted for a safe 325kg on the second and that was all we had for the day unfortunately.

I’m not going to lie, this one hurt a lot. Even though meets like this happen, they shouldn’t and I internalize days like this a lot because I don’t want anyone to feel this way again. The drive to become better has never been stronger, Brecht is fired up in training and working harder than ever before. Time to put it all together.
