Dating back to Breitling’s transitional era during the Quartz Crisis, it stands as an uncommon, rugged piece of Breitling history.

Nice yellowed tritium. Cool original bracelet. The bezel insert was missing and should look more traditional like on the Heuer 844. This bezel insert is from a Aquadive but it fits and looks pretty good, the true purists might hate it. And the watch is waterproof again, installed new gaskets from Tag Heuer for the 844, they still sell it, Breitling didn’t. Fits great. A 46 years old diver ready for the sea again.

This iconic case style was used by more than 100 brands from the 70’s to the early 90’s, and is still used today in new reproductions like in the CWC divers, Momentum Sea Quartz 30 and the relaunched HGP divers.

Originally enginered and built under a Swiss patent by watch case manufacturer MRP SA, and later famously sourced and assembled by French watch making company Georges Monnin for Heuer. That is how the case got its nickname Monnin. Georges Monnin assembled and built these watches for some brands. Many others, like Breitling, bought directly from MRP SA without Georges Monnin involved.

The most famous Monnin/MRP SA watch is probably the legendary Heuer 844. Other brands included among others are Sinn, Yema, Aquadive, HGP, Zenith, Zodiac, City, Precista, CWC and the Chronosport Sea Quartz 30 used by Tom Selleck in the 80’s television show Magnum P.I. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

The most underrated modern Breitling?

Breitling Galactic 44 ”Daydate” A45320. Almost like a non-chronograph Chronomat Airborne but is thinner and wears better. Successor to the similar classic Breitling Headwind.
